Old Delhi’s First CRT-D Procedure Successfully Performed at Sanjeevan Hospital
Delhi: Sanjeevan Hospital, located on Ansari Road, Darya Ganj, New Delhi, has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first private hospital in Old Delhi to successfully perform a Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy with Defibrillator (CRT-D) procedure. This advanced intervention was carried out on a 55-year-old patient presenting with severe heart failure symptoms, a reduced ejection fraction of 30%, and a left bundle branch block on ECG.
The patient, with a history of normal coronary arteries and prior angiography, reported worsening dyspnea, fatigue, and generalized body aches. Comprehensive investigations, including echocardiography and ECG, confirmed significant cardiac dysfunction. Based on these findings, Dr. Manav Aggarwal, Senior Cardiologist at Sanjeevan Hospital, recommended the CRT-D procedure. The intervention led to remarkable improvements in the patient’s ejection fraction, resolution of cardiac dyssynchrony, and stabilization of heart rhythms.
CRT-D is a cutting-edge, device-based therapy, specifically designed for patients with left bundle branch block. In such patients, the contraction of the heart chambers is not synchronized, leading to reduced heart function. This device works to restore synchronized cardiac contractions, thereby improving the ejection fraction and stabilising the patient’s condition. It is performed in patients with normal coronary arteries, ensuring normal blood supply to the heart.
Dr Aggarwal emphasized the significance of this achievement, with the Medical Dialogues team, he said, "The successful CRT-D procedure at Sanjeevan Hospital marks a significant milestone as the first of its kind in Old Delhi. For the first time, patients in this region with severe cardiac issues, like our 55-year-old patient with a weakened heart and left bundle branch block, now have access to world-class cardiac care."
