NEW DELHI: The government is considering increasing the budget from Rs 150 crore last year to Rs 200 crore for providing aids and equipment to disabled persons, Union Minister Krishan Pal Gurjar said.
The government is committed to making sure that every physically disabled person is equipped with devices and aids as per their requirement, the Union minister of state for social justice and empowerment said.
He said this at a programme organised by his ministry, in association with PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Rotary Club, where hearing aids, tricycles and blind-canes were distributed among 2,000 disabled people.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given clear instructions to the ministry that it should ensure that all physically disabled persons are identified across the country and given aids and devices," an official statement said, quoting Gurjar.
