New Delhi: Safdarjung Hospital alleged of Medical Negligence
Delhi: Safdarjung Hospital has been alleged of medical negligence after a reported incident of a two-year child dying at the hospital premise.
The child undergoing treatment at the hospital for pus in the lung cavity died after a surgical blade was left behind, was alleged in the police complaint.
The child's parents have lodged a formal complaint with the police alleging that the surgeon had left the surgical blade, which led to the reported demise of their child.
The police complaint from parents, residents of Wazirabad in northeast Delhi, is also under process of being forwarded to the Medical Council of India (MCI) for necessary action.
TOI spoke to Dr A K Rai, medical superintendent of the hospital, who accepted that the surgical blade was left behind during the surgery. He, however, added that the surgeons informed the family about this and operated on her again to remove the blade.
"Despite the second surgery, the child's condition did not improve. We were investigating the cause of the infection, when the family left against medical advice with the patient. Later, we got to know that she had succumbed to the condition," the superintendent said.
