Dental Home Services not allowed: DCI cracks whip
Dental treatment has to be provided by a registered dentist in his/her clinic and hospital only, stated DCI
New Delhi: Taking cognizance of growing at-home dental services provided by dentists through tie-ups with various companies, the apex regulator of dentists, Dental Council of India (DCI) has cracked its whip on such activities clearly stating that dental treatment has to be provided by a registered dentist in his/her clinic and hospital only.
Noting several other violations, including scanning of teeth being performed by non dentists, etc, the DCI has further directed All State Dental Councils / Tribunals to take necessary action against such companies / dentists those are violating the provisions of Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2010, Dentists Act, 1948 and Revised Dentists (Code of Ethics) Regulations, 2014, as per law
Through a recent notice, the Dental Council of India (DCI) has released notification regarding providing Dental Treatment against Ethical Provisions.
"It has come to the notice of the Dental Council of India that some of the private companies, by engaging dentists, offering in-home services to the patients by passing the professional expertise of the Dentists and functioning on aggressive marketing violating the provisions of Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2010, Dentists Act, 1948 and Revised Dentists (Code of Ethics) Regulations, 2014," stated the advisory issued by Dr Sabyasachi Saha, Secretary, DCI
The advisory states that such companies, all dentists and the public at large, for their dental treatment, be advised as under:-
1. The dental treatment shall be given to the patient by the registered dentists in his / her clinic / hospital.
2. The scanning of teeth of patients shall be performed by registered dentists only. Scanning of teeth performed by any non-dentist will be a gross violation of Dentists Act, 1948.
3. Registration of dentist must be mentioned / displayed or provided at all Web Portals of the company / clinic.
4, Dentists should provide highest quality of treatment for better outcome, providing/endorsing treatment with proper examination, tests, thorough diagnosis and treatment planning, with proper follow up for patient care.
5. Biomedical standard waste management / sterilization protocol shall be followed by all dentists.
6. Companies shall not project their aggressive advertisement campaigns, to lure common man for getting dental treatment.
"All State Dental Councils / Tribunals are hereby directed to take necessary action against such companies / dentists those are violating the provisions of Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2010, Dentists Act, 1948 and Revised Dentists (Code of Ethics) Regulations, 2014, as per law," added the notice
