Abrocitinib Achieves Superior Disease Control in Atopic Dermatitis, Suggests Study

USA: Researchers have found in a new study that treatment with abrocitinib enabled more patients with atopic dermatitis to achieve minimal disease activity by week 16, including at least 90% improvement in Eczema Area and Severity Index (EASI-90) and little to no itching (Peak Pruritus Numerical Rating Scale 0–1), compared with dupilumab or placebo. The findings highlight abrocitinib's superior effectiveness in achieving near-complete skin clearance and itch relief.
- In the JADE DARE trial, 5.8% of patients receiving abrocitinib 200 mg achieved near-complete skin clearance with an itch-free state as early as week 2, compared with 1.1% of patients treated with dupilumab.
- In JADE COMPARE, by week 16, the composite endpoint was achieved by 27.1% of patients receiving abrocitinib 200 mg, 20.2% receiving abrocitinib 100 mg, 15.5% receiving dupilumab, and 5.4% receiving placebo.
- The likelihood of achieving minimal disease activity was consistent regardless of baseline itch severity.
- In the JADE EXTEND trial, patients who had responded inadequately to dupilumab also benefited from switching to abrocitinib, with 16.7% of those receiving 200 mg and 18.5% receiving 100 mg reaching the stringent composite endpoint.
