Use of Advance Face Night Cream Leads To Significant Reduction in Facial Pigmentation and Wrinkles in Indian Women: Clinical Study Finds
The study published in the Journal of Dermatology Research 2024; Volume 5 Issue 2, highlights that Advance Face Night Cream can effectively hydrate the skin, enhance skin tone brightness, and lighten the colour of pigmented areas in 3 weeks.
Women are specifically concerned about skin aging, which itself is a natural process that includes dryness , wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, and sagging skin, and that are considered signs of aging.
Dr. Dyotona Sen, Medical Affairs and Clinical Research Head for Galderma India and South Asia said," Hyperpigmentation is one of the most common skin disorders present globally. Estimated 50% of population reported having at least one pigmentary disorder, with more women affected then men. Melasma is an acquired hyperpigmentation disorder. Melasma prevalence varies across the globe. Its prevalence as a multifactorial disorder has ranged from 1% in the population as a whole to 9–50% in populations at higher risk. Worldwide prevalence of melasma is as high as 41% in some regions. Melasma predominantly targets the facial region, exerting a detrimental influence on patients’ overall wellbeing and directly damaging their psychological and emotional state. Indian prevalence of melasma varies between 1.5% and 33.3% depending on the population. Treatment of melasma remains challenging due to inconsistent results and frequent recurrences.
Several formulations for treating pigmentation and skin aging are currently available in the market. However, some of the ingredients found in skin lightening and antiaging creams, such as mercury, steroids abuse, etc. have been linked to adverse side effects. Given the safety concerns surrounding the usage of such products, there is a need for alternative, safe and efficacious creams for reducing pigmentation and wrinkles. The Biluma advance night cream is a cosmetic product that contains glycerin, shea butter, tocopherol, a combination of water, glycerin, phenoxyethanol and Rumex occidentalis extract; and a combination of glycerin, water and Terminalia ferdinandiana fruit extract as active ingredients."
The researchers carried out 45 days, single-arm, open-label, monocentric study involving 33 women aged 18–55 years with mild to moderate wrinkles and at least one pigmented spot. The main objective of the study was to assess the efficacy of the Advance Face Night Cream in reducing facial pigmentation and wrinkles, while the secondary goal was to evaluate the cream's tolerance throughout its use.
Participants were instructed to apply the Advance Face Night Cream each night before bedtime and to use a sunscreen lotion with an SPF 50 during the day. Evaluations involved a clinical examination and grading of wrinkles in the crow’s feet area, nasolabial region, forehead, and under the eyes. The effects on skin lightening and hydration, as well as subjective efficacy, were also assessed.
Key Findings on the Efficacy and Safety of Advance Face Night Cream:
1. Assessment of Wrinkles and Fine Lines: A significant reduction in the mean wrinkle score in the crow's feet area (7.5%; p=0.004), as well as in the mean scores for wrinkles and fine lines on the forehead and under-eye region (12.5%; p=0.001), was observed after 45 days of application compared to baseline.
2. Assessment of Wrinkles Using 3D Imaging: After 21 and 45 days of night cream application, a significant reduction in the mean overall size of wrinkles was observed (10.0% and 9.0%; p=0.002 and p=0.003, respectively). Additionally, a significant decrease in the mean width of wrinkles was noted at both time points (3.5% and 4.4%; p=0.007 and p=0.001, respectively).
3. Assessment of Skin Radiance and Color Using a Spectrophotometer: A significant increase in the mean L value, representing skin radiance/luminescence, was observed after 21 and 45 days of night cream application (1.6% and 2.7%; p=0.001 for both). Furthermore, the mean ITA values, indicating skin lightening or color, showed a significant rise after 21 and 45 days of application (49.1% and 77.1%; p=0.002 and p=0.001, respectively).
4. Assessment of Skin Hydration: A significant increase in the mean MMSC readings from baseline was observed after 21 and 45 days of cream application (32.9% and 52.0%; p=0.001 for both).
5. Efficacy Evaluation Based on Questionnaire: After 21 days of using the Advance Face Night Cream regimen, 100% of participants felt their skin was moisturized; 93.9% saw reduced facial pigmentation; 57.6% noted a reduction in wrinkles in the crow’s feet area; 60.6% reported reduced facial wrinkles and fine lines; and 100% observed an overall improvement in skin appearance.
After 45 days of application, 100% of participants felt their skin was moisturized, and 97% reported reduced pigmentation, fewer crow’s feet and facial wrinkles, and overall improved skin appearance.

6. Evaluation of Safety and Tolerance: The results showed that none of the participants experienced any skin intolerances, including pricking, tingling, itching, redness, or burning throughout the study. Additionally, no adverse events were reported by any participant during the study period.
This Advance Face Night Cream includes combination of multiple ingredients with unique properties and actions as below:
The combination of water, glycerin, phenoxyethanol, and R. occidentalis extract, along with supplementary ingredients, was effective in reducing pigmentation without causing any skin damage, resulting in a lighter skin tone as observed in the study.
The moisturizing properties of glycerin and shea butter played a crucial role in enhancing skin hydration. Furthermore, tocopherol, in combination with glycerin, water, antioxidant-rich components, and T. ferdinandiana fruit extract, helped diminish visible signs of facial aging, such as wrinkles, fine lines, and pigmentation.
Researchers noted that participants were satisfied with the results, reporting that the cream hydrated their skin, brightened their tone, reduced wrinkles and fine lines, and enhanced their overall appearance. This is critical as the perception of the users plays an important role in the selection of products.
It was concluded that Advance Face Night Cream used regularly along with a sunscreen lotion with SPF 50 could brighten, lighten, and hydrate the skin in 3 weeks, reduce wrinkles and fine lines in 6 weeks, and is well-tolerated.
Speaking to Medical Dialogues team, Dr Sen explained, "This clinical study on Indian patients was conducted to evaluate efficacy and safety of Advance Face Night Cream in reducing facial pigmentation and wrinkles through a robust and holistic assessment based on Clinical, Instrumental and Subjective assessment. Results demonstrated that topical application of Advance Face Night Cream resulted in a significant reduction in fine lines and overall size & width of facial wrinkles in 3 - 6 weeks. The cream could significantly hydrate the skin, brighten skin tone & lighten skin color of pigmented area in 3 weeks. Based on clinical evaluation and subjective assessment, the cream was well received and well tolerated by all participants. This study further helps in strengthening evidence for Biluma Advance Night Cream by Galderma as an effective solution for Hyperpigmentation management and Anti-ageing effects."
