Doctor locks herself after tiff with junior who alleged harassment, Nair hospital orders inquiry
The present case sparked panic in the hospital after a senior doctor allegedly accused of ragging juniors, locked herself in her room on September 12. The medico did so fearing serious consequences after the junior doctor told her that she would move a complaint against her.
Mumbai: In wake of an altercation between two female doctors from the ENT Department of BYL Nair Hospital, a probe has been launched to verify whether the incident was a misunderstanding or harassment. During the tiff, when the junior doctor told the senior medico that she would file a complaint against her with high authorities, the senior doctor panicked and locked herself in her room.
With this, it has once again become a cause of concern for the civic-run hospital as a few months ago 26-year-old Dr Payal Tadvi, a second-year post-graduate medical student hanged herself in a hostel room on May 22 after facing casteism by her senior colleagues.

The recent spat between the junior and the senior doctors has prompted the hospital authority to counsel the woman doctors to avoid any unfortunate incident like in the Dr Payal Tadvi case.
The present case sparked panic in the hospital after a senior doctor allegedly accused of ragging juniors, locked herself in her room on September 12. The medico did so fearing serious consequences after the junior doctor told her that she would move a complaint against her.
The senior doctor alleged that the junior doctor refused to accept work from her and was rude in her approach, while, the junior doctor stated that the senior doctor allegedly overburdened her with work and also harassed her.
Later, the junior doctor threatened the senior stating that she would move a complaint about her behaviour. In light of the past incident, the senior doctor got panic struck and locked herself inside the room. Thereafter, the senior doctor was extended mental health support for a few days before she resumed work.

As per recent media reports, the matter was referred to the hospital's anti-ragging committee on September 17 by Dr Bachi Hathiram, head of the department, ENT. Both, the junior and the senior doctor submitted their statements to the committee and are undergoing counselling.
Confirming the incident, the Dean Dr Ramesh Bharmal stated that the hospital is looking into a fresh ragging case.
"We summoned both their parents. The doctors were referred for counselling and the senior doctor requested for short leave, which we granted," Bharmal told TH.
