Doctor pursuing MS arrested for impersonating NEET PG 2020 applicant during exam
Patna: An MBBS doctor pursuing MS has recently been arrested for allegedly impersonating an applicant during the conduction of this academic session’s National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for PG Medical Courses- NEET PG 2020. The medico was reportedly offered Rs 2 lakh for the same by his examinee friend to clear the test for him.
The police have registered a case against the duo under Sections 420 (Cheating), 467 (Forgery of valuable security), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (Using genuine as forged) of the Indian Penal Code along with Section 6/9 of the UP Public Examinations Act.
Every year, the prestigious exam meant to improve the standard of medical education in India, and also ensure the intellectual and academic standard of students in entering into specialization, faces threat by impersonators. The examination body, National Board of Examination (NBE) which conducted NEET PG 2020 had also issued an advisory for its candidates warning them to be aware of the spoofed emails and messages in the name of the authority forwarded by some touts and unscrupulous elements.

The latest scandal on NEET PG came in the form of an incident where the Police recently arrested an 29-year-old MBBS doctor by profession who is pursuing MS at a Bihar based Medical College. The arrest was made in connection with an impersonation case, registered on the complaint filed by the Controller of Examinations at IIMT College where NEET PG was being held.
HT reports about the case wherein the accused doctor was caught after his biometrics did not match with the applicant’s. He was asked to show his admit card but, he allegedly managed to run out of the campus.
Based on the complaint of the exam controller, a police team reached the spot and launched an investigation into the matter. Later, police received a tip off about the whereabouts of the doctor leading to his arrest.
Upon interrogation, the doctor reportedly confessed to his offence and told the investigating officers that he and the real applicant used to be flatmates when they were doing MBBS from a Delhi-based medical college.
While the doctor managed to secure MS seat at a medical college in Patna, his flatmate continued preparing for the exam. The police informed HT that the NEET PG 2020 applicant had promised to pay the doctor Rs 2 lakh for impersonating him in the exam and clearing it for him.
After his arrest for allegedly impersonating the medico, the doctor was sent to jail after being produced before a court. “We have launched a search for his friend using manual and electronic surveillance. He will be arrested soon,” Inspector Singh said.
NEET PG 2020 was conducted as a Computer Based Test (CBT) on 5th January in a single session at all the test centres.
