Doctor who accused Faridkot Medical College HoD of Sexual Harassment detained for protesting at DC's office
Faridkot: The doctor, who has been protesting against the alleged inaction of the Guru Gobind Singh Medical College authorities on her sexual harassment complaint against the senior faculty; was recently detained for staging a commotion at the Deputy Commissioner's office.
The woman doctor, posted as senior tutor at the institute along with 5 other female protestors had been taken to the police station from where they were released an hour later.
She had launched the protest on November 16 outside DC office as there was no action on her complaint of sexual harassment for three months. She has been urging the police to arrest the HoD at the medical college. The medico had filed the complaint in August this year, but no FIR has been registered till date and all the internal inquires are reportedly pending with the prevention of sexual harassment committee headed by an Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC).
During the protest, she went inside the complex with five others but was taken away by the police. Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Gurpreet Singh informed HT, “We asked them to hold a peaceful protest outside the DC office, but they blocked the main entrance, causing inconvenience to people.”
After her release, the doctor stated, “The district administration is not doing anything on my complaint and now the police are not even allowing us to protest.”
The students who recently observed a massive protest in solidarity with the complainant medico had alleged that woman doctors were not safe in the medical college and the administration is trying to save the senior doctor accused of sexual harassment. The medicos staged the protest during the visit of Spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar while further accusing the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) authorities of promoting RSS ideologies to its affiliated medical college where only scientific and medical researches should be encouraged for the educational gain of medical students.
The medicos had stated, "Instead of taking action against the doctor who has been accused of sexual harassment, the V-C is busy inviting such speakers.”
