A Facebook post claims that Saltwater Sitz Bath Cures Piles in 3 Days. However upon Fact Check, Medical Dialogues Team found the video to be AI generated and the claims made in the video are also FALSE.

Claim

In a Facebook post, it is claimed that Saltwater Sitz Bath Cures Piles in 3 Days. In the video uploaded by भारत में बवासीर से राहत it is said, "In January 2025, the piles epidemic in India will come to an end, and all Indians will now live a completely healthy and pain-free life. Deepak Chopra, in collaboration with the best proctologists, has discovered a completely natural saltwater remedy that eliminates piles in just three days without any pills or surgery. Now, Deepak Chopra will tell us what this remedy is. Saltwater restores blood flow in the veins within 24 hours. If you spend 3 minutes watching this video, within 24 hours, you will forget about anal burning, constipation, and the burden of pills. You will live a healthy life free from anal pain and intestinal issues and will permanently forget about piles and all their consequences. Our team, in collaboration with a small group of scientists from Oxford, has conducted hundreds of tests and identified the real cause of piles— a molecule that blocks your venous return pathway. This molecule acts like an invisible poison, gradually destroying your rectal circulation throughout your life. But now, this is over. A simple 10-second saltwater method completely destroys this molecule within 24 hours. Between 215 and 381 people across India have already freed themselves from piles and all its consequences in just three days using this method. This unique technique is available to everyone. It only takes 10 seconds before bedtime, and most importantly, it can be done without leaving home."

The claim made in the video are FALSE. The Medical Dialogues Fact Check Team found the video to be AI generated and the claims made in the video are also FALSE

What are Piles?

Piles, or hemorrhoids, are swollen and inflamed veins in and around the anus or lower rectum, caused by increased pressure due to straining during bowel movements, chronic constipation, or pregnancy. Complications can include blood clots in external hemorrhoids, leftover skin tags after clots dissolve, infections, strangulation of prolapsed internal hemorrhoids due to restricted blood supply, and anemia from chronic blood loss.

What are the grades of piles?

Hemorrhoids are classified into four grades based on their severity. Grade I hemorrhoids remain inside the rectum but may protrude slightly beyond the dentate line with straining. Grade II hemorrhoids prolapse through the anus during straining but retract spontaneously. Grade III hemorrhoids protrude externally and require manual reduction. Grade IV hemorrhoids remain persistently prolapsed and cannot be pushed back. Surgical intervention is typically necessary for Grade III and IV hemorrhoids due to their severity and persistence.

What is sitz bath?

A sitz bath is a therapeutic warm water bath that helps soothe discomfort and promote healing, often used for conditions like hemorrhoids, perineal irritation, or infections. It can provide symptomatic relief, while tap water compresses and petroleum jelly may help ease crusting and fissuring.

Are celebrities endorsing a miraculous remedy for piles?

A digitally altered video featuring anchor Anjan Om Kashyap and Dr Deepak Chopra which is not authentic claims that they are promoting a home remedy for piles. The video is highly digitally altered.

The Medical Dialogues Fact Check Team used Hive AI Detector to analyze the video, which determined the video was AI generated.

It was concluded that the video is AI-generated, fake, and spreads misinformation.

Can a salt water sitz bath completely cure piles in just 3 days?

A salt water sitz bath is beneficial for symptom relief but cannot cure hemorrhoids in just three days. While salt water sitz baths can soothe symptoms, they do not cure hemorrhoids, especially not within three days.

A saltwater sitz bath can offer temporary relief for piles. A study published in Cureus found that sitz baths have pain-relieving properties and aid in the healing of anal fissures, indicating that saltwater sitz baths may also help reduce discomfort and swelling in piles by enhancing circulation and soothing irritation.

Another study published in the International Surgery Journal found that incorporating sitz baths into a conservative management approach for treating anal fissures yielded promising outcomes for piles.

While salt water sitz baths can soothe symptoms, they do not cure hemorrhoids, especially not within three days.

Responding to the claim Dr Vivek Mohan Sharma, Consultant, Hospital - Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Howrah said, "Piles also known as Hemorrhoids typically require more comprehensive treatment, which may include dietary changes, over-the-counter medications, or in some cases, medical procedures if the condition is severe. A saltwater sitz bath can help reduce discomfort and promote healing, but it doesn't eliminate the underlying problem or shrink hemorrhoids completely. It can provide temporary relief for the symptoms of hemorrhoids such as pain, itching, and swelling, but it is unlikely to cure piles in just three days. The saltwater bath works by soothing the affected area, reducing inflammation, and promoting healing through the warm water and the salt's mild antiseptic properties."

Dr. Partha Pratim Sen, Senior Consultant - General, Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgery, Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Howrah further added, "Piles/Haemorrhoids are a self-limiting condition which can present with painless bleeding or painful when thrombosed. Hip bath or sitz bath with warm water only is soothing for the pain and it may take a week or two before one gets a significant relief from pain. Regarding the bleeding it spontaneously stops in a day or two if the patient is not on any blood thinning medications. The root cause for hemorrhoids is constipation which is due to lack of adequate fluids or fibers in the diet. So simultaneous intake of fibre and plenty of water is necessary to avoid hemorrhoids to recur in future. Only a handful of patients with severe anaemia due to bleeding hemorrhoids or intolerable pain needs surgical intervention. That is how it is treated in NHS UK. No ointment is marketed as remedy for Haemorrhoids in the West"

Medical Dialogues Final Take

The Medical Dialogues Fact Check Team found the video to be AI-generated, and the claim in the video that saltwater sitz baths can cure piles is FALSE. A saltwater sitz bath can help relieve symptoms of piles (hemorrhoids) by reducing pain, swelling, and inflammation. However, it cannot completely cure hemorrhoids in just three days. Effective treatment often requires lifestyle changes, medications, or medical interventions, depending on severity.

Hence, the claims in the video are False, and the video is also AI-generated.
