Fact Check: Can Green Leaves Juice Cure Diabetes?

An Instagram reel claims that Diabetes Can Be Cured and Green Leaves Juice can Cure it. The claim is FALSE.
Claim
In an Instagram reel, it is claimed that Diabetes can Be Cured and Green Leaves Juice can Cure It. In the reel by himshikha1011, it is said, "Is diabetes curable? Absolutely, it is curable. If you drink leaf juice before meals—what kind of leaves? Bathua, cholai, kultha, coriander, mint, mango leaves, guava leaves—basically any non-toxic, chemical-free leaves you can get, like grass leaves, sun-exposed leaves, hibiscus, or any other edible ones that aren’t poisonous.
Take a handful of these leaves—neem, sweet neem, curry leaves—crush them, mix with water, strain the juice and drink it daily before meals. Do this morning, afternoon, and evening in a glass. You can add lemon if you like. Don’t take it in the evening raw boil it then.
The point is, diabetes is curable. It will go away completely and comfortably."
The reel can be accessed here.
Fact Check
The claim is FALSE. There is no scientific evidence or medical consensus to back the claim. Diabetes is a chronic disease which cannot be cured.
What is Diabetes?
Diabetes is a long-term health condition in which the body either doesn’t make enough insulin or cannot use it properly. Insulin is a hormone that regulates blood sugar levels. When insulin function is impaired, sugar builds up in the bloodstream (a condition called hyperglycemia), which over time can damage various organs, particularly the nerves and blood vessels.
Is Diabetes Curable or be Eliminated?
Currently, diabetes cannot be eliminated or permanently cured, but it can be well controlled—and in some cases, even reversed. Reversal means reaching and maintaining normal blood sugar levels without relying on medication, usually by adopting a healthy diet and consistent exercise routine. This remission is not a one-time fix; it requires lifelong commitment to lifestyle changes and regular monitoring.
Hence, the claim by the user is FALSE.
Can Diabetes Be Cured and Green Leaves Juice Cure It?
The video’s claims are FALSE. Diabetes cannot be cured, only managed and while certain leaves may have minor health benefits, there is no scientific evidence or medical consensus that green leaves juice can cure diabetes. Further, there is no scientific evidence related to green leaves juice.
Diabetes currently has no permanent cure, but it can be effectively managed and, in many cases, even reversed. Reversal refers to achieving blood sugar levels within the normal range without the need for medications, primarily through sustained lifestyle changes such as a healthy diet and regular exercise. While diabetes can not be cured, it can go into remission.
The application of neem leaves provides multiple health benefits due to their natural antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and therapeutic properties. According to a study in the International Journal of Scientific and Research Publications, neem leaves demonstrated significant antibacterial activity. The study also pointed to neem’s potential role in malaria treatment, citing its toxicity to malaria-causing strains.
Mango leaves are also known for their health-promoting properties. In a review by Manoj Kumar et.al., mango leaves were found to possess various biological activities, including antioxidant, antimicrobial, lipid-lowering, and hepatoprotective effects.
Curry leaves are known for their health-promoting properties. In a study by Laxmikant D. Shirole et. al., curry leaves were shown to support liver and cardiac health, as well as aid in digestion.
Certain leaves may have health benefits but there is no scientific evidence or medical consensus to back the claim.
Dr. V. Mohan, Chairman, Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialties Centre said in a conversation, "Diabetes is a chronic condition that currently has no cure. For individuals with Type 1 diabetes, the body cannot produce insulin, making lifelong insulin therapy essential for survival. In the case of Type 2 diabetes, remission is possible but not permanent. Remission refers to achieving normal blood sugar levels (HbA1c below 6.5%). However, this state can only be attained through consistent, long-term lifestyle modifications such as weight loss, healthy eating, and regular exercise. Even then, diabetes can return if these habits are not sustained. Natural remedies like green juices especially those made from bitter gourd or spinach may aid in blood sugar control, but they are not substitutes for medical treatment."
Dr. Ranjit Unnikrishnan, Vice Chairman, Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialties Centre also stressed that regular monitoring, professional advice, and personalized care are vital for effective, long-term diabetes management.
Medical Dialogues Final Take
Diabetes is a chronic condition that can be managed through medication, diet, and lifestyle changes but cannot be cured. Claiming that diabetes can be "cured" is scientifically inaccurate and FALSE. The video also promotes green leaves juice as a "cure" for diabetes. While certain leaves like neem, curry, and mngo may have certain health benefits, there is no scientific evidence or medical consensus supporting the claim that green leaves juice can cure diabetes or replace standard treatment.
Hence, the claim is FALSE.
