A female resident doctor was allegedly assaulted by a patient in the Urology department of KEM hospital, Mumbai, yesterday, where the patient has been reported to slap the doctor thrice in front of other relatives.
The case goes to Dr Anagha Kulkarni, a resident in the urology department of the said hospital, who was attacked by one patient named Farida Sheikh, who demanded her reports of her procedure done to be handed over immediately. This incident took place in the operation theatre where the patient rudely barged in while the doctor was performing a procedure on another patient. Upon the request of the doctor to let her perform the procedure and to come back later, the patient became violent and allegedly slapped the resident thrice. While this was happening, the son of the accused tried to snatch away the documents.
The hospital security then, took the accused to Bhoiwada police station where she complained of chest pain and is reported to have fled the police station . An FIR has been launched under the Doctor's Protection Act.
Condemning the entire incident, Sagar Mundada , President MARD, said, " this incidence happened just after one month of statewide Mass Bunk by resident doctors mainly for the security of resident doctors. There was no security cameras and proper security where the assault took place. These issues must be addressed seriously on a priority basis."
