National AI Doctors Mission (NAIDM)- Empowering Every Doctor with AI for Viksit Bharat

The National AI Doctors Mission (NAIDM) is a pioneering national initiative aimed at equipping India's medical fraternity with the knowledge, skills, and ethical framework required for the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in clinical practice.
Conceptualized and led by Medical Dialogues and led by National medical forum, India’s largest medical communication platform for healthcare professionals, in collaboration with the National Medical Forum, the mission brings together clinical insight, policy alignment, and digital reach to enable large-scale adoption.
To be formally held at Health AI Con 2026 (17 May, New Delhi), the mission envisions positioning India as a global leader in doctor-led, ethical AI adoption in healthcare.
The mission aligns with the vision of Viksit Bharat and complements Digital India and the National Digital Health Mission.
AI is projected to contribute trillions to the global economy by 2030, with healthcare being a key sector. Clinical evidence already shows AI achieving diagnostic accuracy comparable to specialists in areas such as cancer detection.
India’s healthcare workforce includes over 13 lakh doctors, 7.5 lakh AYUSH practitioners, and more than 42 lakh nursing personnel. Despite this scale, AI adoption remains fragmented and lacks clinical governance.
Dr. Anil Kohli, Chairperson, NAIDM, said: “Artificial Intelligence in healthcare must be led by clinicians, not just technologists. The National AI Doctors Mission is a timely initiative to ensure that every doctor in India is equipped to understand, evaluate, and responsibly use AI in clinical practice. This is not just about technology adoption—it is about safeguarding patient care while advancing medical science.”
Rationale
The mission addresses three key gaps:
1. Lack of standardized AI training
2. Governance gaps in AI deployment
3. Increasing demand for AI literacy among doctors
Vision
NAIDM envisions a Jan Andolan where every doctor is aware, empowered, and ethically grounded in AI use.
Objectives
• AI Literacy for All
• Clinical Integration
• Capacity Building
• Ethical Use
• Ecosystem Development
Dr. Prem Aggarwal, President, Organizing Committee, NAIDM, said: “India stands at a critical juncture where AI can transform healthcare delivery at scale. Through NAIDM, we aim to move from fragmented innovation to structured implementation—training doctors, building trust, and creating a sustainable ecosystem for AI integration. This initiative is a step toward making India a global leader in ethical and inclusive health AI.”
Implementation Framework
Phase 1: Awareness
Phase 2: Training & Certification
Phase 3: Clinical Integration
Phase 4: National Scale-Up
Institutional Architecture: The mission is anchored by Medical Dialogues, leveraging its national reach across the medical community, and is being implemented in collaboration with the National Medical Forum, with support from NBEMS, ICMR, AMTZ, and Health Parliament to ensure alignment with national priorities and standards.
Expected Impact
1. Awareness and early adoption
2. Integration into education and improved outcomes
3. India as a global leader in AI-enabled healthcare
Conclusion
NAIDM represents a national step toward democratizing AI in healthcare.
Led by Medical Dialogues in partnership with key national institutions, the initiative ensures that technology strengthens clinical decision-making while preserving the central role of doctors in patient care.
