1,24,825 MBBS seats available across 809 Medical Colleges in India- NMC releases updated 2025-26 seat matrix

New Delhi: Through a recent notice, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has released an updated MBBS seat matrix, which has been prepared considering the recent changes in Renewal of existing UG (MBBS) seats as well as additional seats sanctioned for the Academic Year 2025-26.
Referring to the MARB notice dated 24.09.2025, the Secretary of NMC, Dr. Raghav Langer, wrote to the Deans/Principals of all medical institutes on 26.09.2025 and mentioned, "Kind reference is invited to the Medical Assessment and Rating Board’s (MARB) Notice of even number dated 24-09-2025 regarding updated seat matrix in view of recent changes in renewal of existing UG(MBBS) seats as well as additional seats sanctioned for UG(MBBS) for the Academic Year 2025-26. All the concerned Medical Institutions, Parents, Student and other stakeholders are requested to take note of the same."
As per the revised MBBS seat matrix, there are a total of 124825 MBBS seats available this year across 809 medical colleges, including the 7375 MBBS seats that the NMC approved this year.
Last year, the Commission granted permission for 117750 MBBS seats. However, during the renewal process for the Academic Year 2025-2026, a total of 456 seats were reduced.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that on 13.09.2025, NMC had released the MBBS seat matrix, which revealed that 123700 MBBS seats were available this year, and NMC approved 6850 new MBBS seats this year. The earlier data also showed that during the renewal process for the Academic Year 2025-2026, a total of 1056 seats were reduced.
As per the revised seat matrix data released by NMC, there are altogether 114 MBBS seats available at Andaman and Nicobar. In Andhra Pradesh, the total number of seats available this year is 6965. Further, there are 100 seats available in Arunachal Pradesh, 1875 seats in Assam, 3395 seats in Bihar, 150 seats in Chandigarh, 2405 seats in Chhattisgarh, 177 seats in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, 1396 seats in Delhi, 200 seats in Goa, 7400 seats in Gujarat, 2510 seats in Haryana.
Further, 920 seats are available in Himachal Pradesh, 1675 seats in Jammu and Kashmir, 1205 seats in Jharkhand, 13394 seats in Karnataka, 5304 seats in Kerala, 5625 seats are available in Madhya Pradesh, 12574 seats in Maharashtra, 525 seats in Manipur, 200 seats in Meghalaya, 100 seats in Mizoram, 100 seats in Nagaland, 2975 seats in Odisha, 1873 seats in Puducherry, 1899 seats in Punjab, 7030 seats in Rajasthan, 150 seats in Sikkim, 12450 seats are in Tamil Nadu, 9190 seats are in Telangana, 400 seats in Tripura, 13125 seats are available in Uttar Pradesh, 1400 seats in Uttarakhand, and 6024 seats are available in West Bengal.
Therefore, when compared with the seat matrix released on 13.09.2025, 200 seats have been increased in Andhra Pradesh, 100 seats have been increased in Chhattisgarh, 150 seats in Gujarat, 75 seats in Haryana, 50 seats in Kerala, 50 seats in Maharashtra, 50 seats in Punjab, 50 seats in Rajasthan, 100 seats in Tamil Nadu, 200 seats in Telangana, 50 seats in Uttar Pradesh and 50 seats have been increased in West Bengal in the updated seat matrix.
