Beware of traps! NMC Warns Against Impersonators Seeking Money from Medical Colleges
New Delhi: Through a recent notice, the National Medical Commission has warned the medical college authorities against impersonators using the Commission's name to seek money.
Writing to the heads of medical institutes across the country, NMC Chairman Dr B Srinivas has informed that such impersonators are posing as either the Chairman of the Commission or the President of the Board(s) under NMC.
"It has come to the attention of NMC that certain individual(s) have been making phone calls to Medical College authorities impersonating as Chairman, NMC / President of the Board(s) under the National Medical Commission (NMC) seeking money," NMC mentioned in the public notice on 30.01.2025.
The Commission has clarified that neither the Chairman of NMC nor the President(s)/Member(s) of various Boards/Secretary/authorities of NMC makes such calls seeking monetary favours.
Accordingly, NMC advised the heads and senior authorities of all Medical Colleges not to get into "such traps of impersonator" and further advised them to immediately file an FIR or report the matter to the police authorities with details of such callers.

"Further heads / senior authorities of all medical colleges are advised not to engage in any above conversation/communication with persons claiming to be from the National Medical Commission. Any individual taking cognizance or acting on such conversations/communications does so at their own risk," clarified the Commission.
"This notice is issued to safeguard the public / medical colleges from any misinformation and to prevent any unauthorized activities carried out by the impersonator(s). This issues with the approval of competent authority," NMC further added.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that last year in January, NMC had warned the public against an impersonator allegedly engaging with others using a specific mobile number and claiming to be the Chairperson of the Commission, Dr. BN Gangadhar. Back then, the Commission warned the public and advised them not to engage in any conversation with the person using the concerned mobile number.
Again in May 2024, NMC issued another warning to the public against the individual impersonating the Chairman of NMC, Dr. BN Gangadhar. The Apex Medical Regulator informed that the concerned individual was engaging with others claiming to be the NMC Chairman and using a specific mobile number.
