Doctors cannot Register Additional Qualification with NMC Without Paying Fee to NBE
New Delhi: Through a recent notice, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has clarified that doctors cannot register their additional qualifications with the Commission without paying the prescribed fee to the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) first.
The Apex Medical Commission has clarified that it can only submit requests for verification of AQ to NBEMS after successful payment of the fees by the applicant. This will be applicable to doctors who have completed their degrees under NBEMS including DNB, DrNB, FNB as well as FMGE doctors.
Applicants will have to make the payment of the prescribed fee for verification to NBEMS through its Miscellaneous Fee Payment Portal. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that earlier this year, NBEMS had introduced a Credential Verification Online Portal (CVOP) that allows organisations (Employer/ Public Authority/ Credential Verification Agency) to submit credential verification requests to NBEMS online as well as the agency to track their submitted requests.
This portal can be accessed through the official website of NBEMS under the "Digital Services" tab. Back then, urging the candidates to share a copy of the payment receipt with the concerned organisation along with the credentials required verification, NBE had specified that the respective organisation would be able to submit the request for verification to NBEMS only after the concerned candidate already paid the prescribed fee for verification to NBEMS through its Miscellaneous Fee Payment Portal.

Now the same has been reiterated by the Apex Medical Education Regulatory Body- NMC. The Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB) of the Commission mentioned in the recent notice, "As all are aware that National Medical Commission issues Additional Qualification (AQ) certificates to Registered Medical Practitioners after they acquire higher medical qualification(s) under section 26 of the IMC Act, 1956 read with Section 61(2) of the NMC Act, 2019. The said certificates are issued after due verification of the higher qualification(s) of the applicants from the concerned Institute/College/University including NBEMS."
"In this connection, it is informed that National Board of Education in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has recently issued a public notice dated 24.04.2024 vide which it has been communicated that the verification of credentials issued by NBEMS will now be through the “Credential Verification Online Portal (CVOP)” (available on NBEMS website https://natboard.edu.in under the tab “Digital Services”) after the payment of prescribed fee for verification to NBEMS through its Miscellaneous Fee Payment Portal," further mentioned the notice issued by Prof (Dr) B Srinivas on 10.12.2024.
Considering this, NMC advised all the applicants who have completed their additional qualification from NBEMS and desire to apply for Additional Qualification (AQ) certificates from NMC "to pay the prescribed fee to NBEMS through its Miscellaneous Fee Payment Portal, as mentioned above."
"After payment of fee to NBEMS, a legible copy of the payment receipt should be attached in the online AQ application under “Relevant PG document, if any“ column. It may please be noted that only after successful payment of fee by the applicant, NMC will be able to submit request for verification of AQ to NBEMS," it clarified.
