Fake NMC Notice Instructs Foreign Medicos to get Eligibility Certificate, Govt Issues Clarification
New Delhi: Issuing an alert on the fake notification that being doing rounds all across social media in the name of the National Medical Commission, the PIB Fact Check has recently clarified that the public notice asking students pursuing their medical education from foreign institutes to get eligibility certificates from the National Medical Commission (NMC), is a fake.
The notice claims that Indian Citizens who commenced studying in foreign medical institutions on or after 01.01.2019 needs to register for Eligibility Certificate under the Indian medical council Act, 1956 at the national medical commission within the date 31.12.2021.
In fact, the fake notice also warned that any applications made after the deadline would be aborted.
"Indian citizens intending to obtain primary medical qualification from any medical institution outside of India hereafter shall have to obtain eligibility certificate as per NMC/MCI/EC/2019/008918," mentioned the fake NMC notice.

As per section 13(4B) of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, it is mandatory for an Indian Citizen/Overseas Citizen of India to obtain an Eligibility Certificate from the medical council in order to pursue Primary Medical Qualification (MBBS or its equivalent) from abroad.
While the Medical Council of India (MCI) was in charge of medical education, it had given the students who want to pursue MBBS abroad with a deadline for submitting the requisite information to obtain an eligibility certificate.
However, National Medical Commission Act was issued back in the August of 2019 and came into force in 2020. Following this, "The Board of Governors in supersession of Medical Council of India constituted under section 3A of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 stands dissolved thereafter," the official website of NMC clearly mentions.
In fact, on the official site of the NMC, the apex medical education regulatory body in India, no such notification setting a deadline for students, who are pursuing medical education abroad, has been posted.
The Twitter handle of PIB Fact check has also clarified the same and clarified that NMC hasn't issued any such notice.
A public notice allegedly issued by @NMC_IND claims that students who commenced studying in foreign medical institutions on or after 1/1/2019 need to get eligibility certificate under Indian Medical Council Act by 31/12/2021.#PIBFactCheck
