NMC clears 187 additional PG medical seats after appeals

New Delhi: Through a recent notice, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has notified about 187 additional postgraduate seats granted by the First Appeal Committee against the decision of MARB.

"In reference to the appeals preferred by Medical Colleges under Section 28(5) of the NMC Act, 2019 against the decisions of the MARB for the seats granted during Academic Year 2025–26, the matter was examined by the First Appeal Committee. The list of seats granted by the First Appeal Committee is attached herewith for the information of all stakeholders. The LOPs for these sanctioned PG seats for AY 2025-26 will be issued shortly. The counselling authorities need not wait for the LOPs from institutions to include them in the counselling process. This list uploaded on the website shall be considered as valid document for counselling process," the President of MARB, Dr. M K Ramesh mentioned in the notice dated 20.12.2025.

Following this, the NMC Secretary Raghav Langer wrote to the heads of all medical institutes and addressed the issue of seats for post-graduate courses in medical colleges/institutes for the academic year 2025-2026.

"Kind reference is invited to the Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) Public Notice of even number dated 21-12-2025 on the subject mentioned above being self-explanatory inter-alia duly enclosing the list of seats granted by the First Appeal Committee which shall be considered as valid document for counseling process. The counselling authorities need not wait for the LOPs from institutions to include them in the counselling process...Accordingly, all concerned are requested to take note of the same for necessary action on their part," the Communication dated 22.12.2025 mentioned.

According to the details shared by NMC, after the First Appeal, permission for a total of 187 additional seats has been granted by the Appeal Committee. Among these, 3 seats have been granted in M.Ch Plastic Surgery, 29 seats in MD Pediatrics, 34 seats in MD Anaesthesiology, 14 seats in MD Microbiology, 1 seat in MD Skin V.D., 3 seats in MD Community Medicine, 1 seat in Emergency Medicine, 7 seats in MD Forensic Medicine, 22 seats in MD General Medicine, 11 seats in MD Pathology, 2 seats in MD Psychiatry, 7 seats in MD Radio Diagnosis, 2 seats in MD Respiratory Medicine, 9 seats in MS General Surgery, 17 seats in MD Ob & Gyn, 17 seats in MS Ophthalmology, 4 seats in MS Orthopaedics, and 4 seats have been granted in MD Otorhinolarungology.

NMC has released a list of medical colleges where these additional seats have been granted after the Appeal. Among these, the maximum number of additional seats has been granted to Shri M.P. Shah Medical College (9 seats in MD General Medicine), Post Graduate studies and Research, B.J.Medical College, Ahmedabad, Gujarat (7 seats in MS Ophthalmology and 7 seats in MD Microbiology). The details of the rest of the colleges, along with the additional seats granted by Appeal Committee and total seats after decision of the Appeal Committee are as follows:
