NMC directs institutes to mandatorily update faculty's National, State Medical Registration numbers on AEBAS portal, warns of non-compliance
New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed all medical colleges and institutions to mandatorily update the National Medical Register (NMR)/ State Medical Register (SMR) numbers of their medical faculty on the Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS) portal within one month.
In an Office Memorandum issued by the NMC in this regard, the commission said it had observed that Nodal Officers across various medical colleges have, in many instances, left the NMR / SMR Number field blank in respect of faculty members during their initial registration on the Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS) portal.
The NMC referred to the provisions under the UG / PG Minimum Standard Requirements (MSR), and MARB Regulations which mandate a periodic, transparent, and digitally verified assessment of teaching staff across all medical institutions.
Therefore, in strict compliance with NMC regulations/ guidelines, it is hereby directed to all Medical Colleges/ Institutions to immediately review and update NMR/SMR No. in the profile details of all faculty members and Junior Residents (JRs)/Senior Residents (SRs)/Tutor/Demonstrator of their respective Colleges on the NMC AEBAS portal.
The following instructions must be adhered to by Nodal Officers while updating the information on the AEBAS Portal-
1 MEDICAL FACULTY & JR/SR/TUTOR/DEMONSTRATOR- Nodal Officers must enter correct and valid NMR/SMR registration numbers of all Medical faculty members & JR/SR/Tutor/Demonstrator in the designated field. Leaving this field blank is strictly prohibited.
2 NON-MEDICAL FACULTY- For Faculty members & Tutors/Demonstrators holding MSc & PhD qualifications, ‘NA’ must be entered in the registration number field.
3 TIMELINE- The AEBAS portal profile of all faculty members & JR/SR/Tutor/Demonstrator must be updated by the Nodal Officers of their respective Medical Colleges within 01 month of this notice.
CONSEQUENCES OF NON-COMPLIANCE
Failure to update this information within the stipulated deadline will result in the blocking and automatic rejection of daily attendance vide the NMC system. This may adversely impact the compliance status of the Medical College during NMC assessments and inspections.

The National Medical Register (NMR), a centralised database of registered medical practitioners in modern medicine in the country, was started by the National Medical Commission (NMC) last year. The NMR portal was launched by Union Health Minister JP Nadda in August 23, 2024, with an aim to create an authentic modern database of all allopathic doctors in the country.
