NMC joins hands with Quality Council of India for Assessment of Rating Medical Colleges
New Delhi:The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Quality Council of India (QCI) for the purpose of assessment of rating medical colleges.
The agreement in this regard was signed on July 5, 2023, at the Board's Conference Room in New Delhi. It was signed by President MARB Dr BN Gangadhar and Dr. Varinder Kanwar, the CEO of QCI.
NMC Medical Assessment and Rating Board is responsible for carrying out inspections for granting permission for establishment of new Medical College, increase of MBBS/PG/Super-speciality seats, renewal of permission for existing medical colleges.
"QCI provides a mechanism for independent third-party assessment of products, services and it aims to promote quality through national accreditation of testing, inspection and certification bodies which are internationally recognized," stated a release by Dr. Yogender Malik, a Member of the NMC Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB) and head of the Publication Division of NMC.
President of the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) Dr. Aruna Vanikar, President of the Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) Dr. Vijay Ojha, Member of UGMEB Dr. Vijayendra Kumar, EMRB Member Dr. Yogender Malik and Member of MARB Dr. JL Meena were present during the signing of the MoU.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that introducing uniformity in the rules of setting up new medical colleges, commencing new medical courses, increasing medical seats, and assessing and rating medical institutes, NMC finally published the "Establishment of Medical Institutions, Assessment & Rating Regulations, 2023" in the official Gazette on June 02, 2023.
In respect of the issue of "Assessment by the MARB for the purpose of rating a medical institution", the newly notified regulations mentioned, "The MARB shall conduct an assessment and rating of all medical institutions and shall be vested with all such authority in discharging its functions under the Act. Provided, without prejudice to anything stated in these Regulations, the MARB may appoint one or more independent third-party agency or agencies to conduct an assessment and rating of medical institutions, and on its behalf."
Regarding the issue of Publication of Rating, the new Regulations state, "the MARB shall make available on its website or otherwise in the public domain the latest annual assessment results and ratings of medical colleges or medical institutions, in such a manner as to facilitate public understanding and consumption."
