NMC tells Medical Colleges to observe Anti-ragging day on August 12, Week-long activities to follow- Details

New Delhi- Through a public notice, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has asked medical colleges to observe the Anti-Ragging Day on 12th August, and Anti-Ragging Week from 12th to 18th August 2025.
The University Grant Commission (UGC) decided in 2023 that Anti Ragging Day would be observed on 12th August, followed by Anti Ragging Week. This initiative is one of the tools of the Commission to increase awareness against ragging.
As per the notice, NMC has informed that to prevent ragging, the UGC has framed regulations on curbing the menace of ragging in Higher Educational Institutions. These regulations are mandatory, and all Institutions are required to take necessary steps for their implementation in toto, including the monitoring mechanism, as per provisions, and ensure their strict compliance. The UGC has also taken several proactive steps, including the effective launch of media campaigns and awareness activities for preventing ragging. Videos on anti-ragging are also uploaded on the UGC website for use by Higher Educational Institutions.
Therefore, it has been urged that all the medical institutes, under the administrative purview of NMC, observe 12th August, 2025, as Anti Ragging Day, followed by Anti Ragging Week from 12th August, 2025, to 18th August, 2025, as per the UGC Advisory.
Meanwhile, the Higher Educational Institutions are expected to adopt the following activities during the celebration of Anti-Ragging Day/Week-
1 Inaugural ceremonies to mark the launch of Anti-Ragging Day Week.
2 Competitions such as slogan writing, essay writing, poster making, logo designing, street play performances, photography, quiz competitions, debates, and more on Anti-Ragging themes. Distribute certificates and prizes to encourage the participants to actively promote the Ragging measures.
3 Social media campaigns, activity posts, and video messages by the head of the institutions to disseminate Anti-Ragging messages on the institution's website and social media platforms.
4 Awareness activities like workshops, seminars, interactive sessions, and other creative avenues, such as setting up selfie corners on campus, to spread the key messages.
5 Encourage your students to participate in the National Contest 2025 on Digital Posters, Reels, and Short Videos.
6 Anti-Ragging short films/ TVCs may be screened for students and faculty, which are available on the UGC official website.
7 Forward this advisory to all the colleges within your jurisdiction to celebrate Anti-Ragging Day/Week.
Along with this, the Higher Educational Institutions are also requested to download the creatives related to Anti-Ragging Day/Week from the Anti-Ragging website. Institutions are also advised to share, inform, and engage students, faculty, and non-teaching staff for their active participation. Further, the Action Taken Report ( on the activities conducted and participation during the Anti-Ragging Day/Week may please be submitted on the Anti-Ragging website.
