Process to fill Vacant NMC top posts underway: Chairperson Dr Abhijat Sheth

National Medical Commission
New Delhi: The process to fill up the vacant positions in the National Medical Commission (NMC) is ongoing, the chairperson of the National Medical Commission (NMC), Dr. Abhijat Sheth, recently said.
In an exclusive interview with PTI, Dr. Sheth acknowledged that the posts of president of the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) and the Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB) are vacant.
Further, the posts of members and part-time members are also lying vacant, confirmed Dr. Sheth.
Earlier this year, the Union Minister of State for Health, Smt. Anupriya Patel had confirmed that altogether 19 posts in the Apex Medical Commission were lying vacant in the four autonomous boards. Back then, the Minister had informed the Rajya Sabha that such vacant posts included the posts of Presidents of the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB), Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), and the Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB).

Besides, the posts of two whole-time and two part-time members each of the NMC UG and PG Board, Medical Assessment and Rating Board and NMC Ethics Board were also lying vacant.
Last month, the renowned Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Dr. Abhijat Sheth, who was also the President of the National Board of Examinations (NBE), was appointed as the new Chairperson of the National Medical Commission (NMC).
Apart from the post of NMC Chairperson, the post of the President of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), was also filled. The former Vice-Chancellor of Bengaluru-based Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Dr. M. K. Ramesh, was appointed as the President of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB). Earlier, Dr. Ramesh also served as the President of the NMC Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB).
However, several other posts at the Apex Medical Commission are still lying vacant. Regarding how the NMC will operate with the posts of presidents and members on various Boards like the UG Medical Education Board and Ethics and Medical Registration Board being still vacant, Dr Sheth told PTI, "As far as I know, the posts of president of the UG Board and Ethics and Medical Registration Board are vacant. Also, the posts of members and part-time members are vacant. Filling of these posts is in process."
"Until then, we have the president of the Post-Graduate Medical Education Board, Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) and myself, as well as a very strong admin team in place. Since these responsibilities have been entrusted to me, we will ensure that the operations do not suffer and the necessary reforms are initiated. We are expecting that all other posts will be filled up and the processes will get streamlined in the next couple of months," he added.
