The duo had reportedly taken marriage vows. However, things soon turned sour after the assistant professor (Radiology) of Madurai Medical College allegedly cheated the woman of Rs 30 lakh and later threatened her.
Madurai: In a shocking incident, a 44-year-old assistant professor from the Radiology Department of Madurai Medical College (MMC) was recently arrested for allegedly defrauding a female professor of Rs 30 lakh pretending to marry her.
The renowned Madurai Medical College was earlier in the news after a doctor pursuing PG Anaesthesia allegedly committed suicide by injecting poison at his rented flat in the city.
As per a recent TOI report, the instant case concerned a 53-year-old female professor associated with a private college in Madurai and the assistant professor, who were in a committed relationship. However, things soon turned sour after the assistant professor (Radiology) allegedly cheated the woman of Rs 30 lakh and later threatened her.

Thereafter, the women lodged an FIR against the MMC professor on December 14. A case was registered almost after 10 days under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including section 506 (1), 420 and 406. The sections deal with cheating, criminal intimidation and breach of trust.
Based on the complaint, the radiology professor was apprehended by the police on December 28 (Friday). Presently, the matter is being probed to fetch further details, reports TOI.
Such cases of cheating had earlier been reported as well where the accused cheated the victims under the pretext of marriage. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that Surat-based paediatrician was arrested by the local police for allegedly raping a woman under the pretext of marrying her, who had been later granted conditional bail by a sessions court.
