MCI is hub of Education, Business, Corruption; Should NOT be Regulator: RSS body

The RSS affiliate suggested that MCI, ICAR and BCI should not be regulators and confine themselves to setting professional standards of their respective streams.

New Delhi: The Medical Council of India (MCI), has become “hub of education business and related corruption”, the RSS-backed Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal (BSM) has alleged and suggested overhauling the apex medical regulatory body.

The BSM made similar allegations against the Bar Council of India (BCI) and the Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) and suggested their overhauling as well.

MCI, BCI and ICAR act as regulatory bodies for higher education institutions functioning in medical, legal and agriculture streams.

In an informal note on changes in education policy which has been circulated by it among senior government functionaries, the organisation has advocated for Sanskrit as compulsory subject till Class 8.

The BSM, the offshoot of the ruling BJP’s ideological parent RSS, has given as many as 19 recommendations for overhauling of the education system and making it more student centric and closer to Indian culture. It has also suggested that the Human Resource Development Ministry and the Culture Ministry should be merged as there are about 150 institutes under the Ministry of Culture that also provide education in the field of art.

“It makes eminent sense for the two ministries to be clubbed. And at the time of Independence, the department of culture was under the ministry of education,” the BSM said. Talking about professional courses, the RSS affiliate suggested that MCI, ICAR and BCI should not be regulators and confine themselves to setting professional standards of their respective streams.

Alleging that these three bodies have “become hub of education business and corruption”, the BSM suggested that their role “should be curtailed and overhauled in their respective sections of education sector.”

It has also advocated for setting up of national education commission, headed by the prime minister, and with an eminent academician as the deputy chairperson. The commission should have powers over the executive. The BSM will share these recommendations with Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on Saturday at a conference organised by it.

  1. Can anyone please explain how dates of MCI inspections are known in advance to medical Colleges? So that they can arrange Ghost faculty and fake patients. This itself is a miracle of corruption

  2. When governments do not have enough funds to start medical colleges in adequate numbers , it would ask for public private partnerships, see the mess at government hospitals – we see lack of specialists, super-specialists everywhere. People travel long distances to metro cities to get consultations. Now in such a scenario if the government is trying to increase the seats for undergraduates and postgraduates , why do we have such a phobia for increase in seats. This is what the elected body should have done. Instead of increasing seats for betterment of health of Indians ,we saw doctors getting richer. Demand supply ratio was inadequate, even today it is inadequate. See the way how welfare state nations like Sweden , Norway cater their populations , the doctor patient ratio is adequate. No lines , no waiting periods to get specialist and superspecialist consultations. Elected body had enough time – 70 years !! Still it could not improve health of Indians. Strict norms are even today , before strict norms were their for non bribing ones. Remember the same elected body gave recognition to Gian Sagar Medical colleges ( Ketan Desai was arrested , the elected body head). So time for elected body has gone, elected body has totally failed to deliver. Medical faculty was frustrated ( except a few Ketan Desai cronies), young graduates harassed , DNB people discriminated, patients not satisfied with the medical fraternity and rampant corruption (Even Supreme Court calling MCI a den of corruption !).This is what the elected body did to this noble , once respected profession of ours.

I am glad that NMC is coming and MCI is going forever. Ketan Desai syndicate is fearing that influence on the profession would go , so now they would start blaming the Modi government for privatisation of medical education , for increasing the undergraduate and postgraduate seats, for creating a uniform EXIT test etc.

  3. TILL THE ENTERY OF PRIVATE PLAYERS IN MEDICAL EDUCATION,THERE HAS BEEN NO MURMUR LIKE THIS,AND MCI HAS BEEN ADAMENT TO RECOGNISE THESE PRIVATE MEDICAL COLLEGES SET UP BY POLITICIANS AND BUSINESSMAN,SO MCI WAS GREAT HURDLE IN FULFILLMENT OF THEIR DREAMS,AND NOW THIS LOBBY HAS REPLACED ELECTED BODY WITH SELECTED BODY,AND WE CAN EXPECT HOW IT CAN GO AGAINST APPOINTIG LOBBY,SO WITH RECENT PROPOSAL WE CAN SEE THE DILUTION OF ALL NORMS,AND THAT TOO AT SUCH A SPEED,IT SEEMS HOW MUCH HURRY THEY ARE,AND IF YOU THINK IT WILL BE STUDENT AND PEOPLE FRIENDLY…YOU MAY BE VERY MUCH WRONG,AND TILL DATE MEDICAL EDUCATION WAS THE BEST STREAM AND EVEN THOUGH MCI WAS MAINTAINING ALL STRICT NORMS FOR COLLEGES AND COURSE,AND WITH NMC,FUTURE OF MEDICAL EDUCATION SEEMS LIKE OTHER STREAMS,OF WHICH NO ONE IS TAKER,AND CANNOT EARN EVEN 5000
