Mumbai: As one of the leading global healthcare company, Abbott is committed to connected care and shaping digital health tools to drive breakthrough in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. It has been our constant endeavour to propagate knowledge on various diseases, disorders, therapies and to promote disease awareness, diagnosis, treatment and adherence through pioneering programs and initiatives.

Optimal Treatment of Angina (OPTA) Chronicles is one such initiative designed to empower healthcare professionals with tools to ensure that patients with angina receive better standards of care, thus improving patient outcomes.

OPTA Chronicles aims at empowering physicians with a systematic guideline-based management of Angina. This book focuses on elements including, patient profile-based management approach for Optimal Treatment of Angina, OPTA checklist and questionnaire for physicians to screen, diagnose and risk stratify patients, the most favorable utilization of available pharmacotherapy, algorithm to manage chronic stable angina and an understanding of symptoms and classical clinical presentations. An early diagnosis and appropriate pharmacotherapy will help to ensure optimal use of resources and reduce the risk of future cardiac events.

The OPTA Chronicles is an outcome of a 6-year journey under the guidance of expert cardiologists. During these 6 years, 6 Indian consensus documents have been published that address various need-gaps in the management of Angina. Also, clinical studies have been conducted and published validating OPTA tools and understanding the applicability of these tools in real world clinical practice. OPTA has already made a significant impact, with educating over 10,000 healthcare professionals and conducting more than 2500 Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs across the country. Additionally, over 2500 expert cardiologists and senior physicians have contributed to the OPTA journey.

According to the Global Burden of Disease report, India has an age-standardized CVD mortality rate of 272 per 100,000 people, significantly higher than the global average of 2351. Indians are affected by CVDs a decade earlier than people in Western countries1. Angina, the most common manifestation of CAD, poses an undue burden on Indian healthcare system2. Early diagnosis will help in initiating interventions to reduce the risk of future cardiac events2.

Kartik Rajendran, MD & GM, Abbott’s Specialty Care Business in India said, "Abbott is committed to transforming care. Staying true to our commitment, angina diagnosis and treatment is one of our focus areas. We recognize the critical role healthcare professionals play in the accurate diagnosis and effective management of angina. With this view, the OPTA initiative is specifically designed to support HCPs in making informed decisions and helping ensure optimal treatment outcomes for patients. By empowering clinicians with practical evidence-based knowledge and resources, we aim to enable better patient care and ultimately help reduce the burden of angina in India".

Dr Ashwini Pawar, Medical Affairs Director for Abbott’s Specialty Care Business in India, further added, “This initiative will help to address the unique challenges posed by limited resources and make a positive impact in the lives of angina patients. OPTA Chronicles will play a critical role in bridging gaps in care delivery and empowering the medical professionals to better patient outcomes. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the field of angina management and help ensure improved outcomes for those in need”
