NMC moves to provide impetus to Concept of Physician Scientists
In a move to promote research in the field of Medicine in India, the National Medical Commission (NMC) is now taking measures to bring in a concept of Physician-Scientist and making them an integral part of medical education.
Such policy move is clear with the recent draft of the PG Medical Education Regulations 2021 as well as the draft Teacher Eligibility Qualifications Rules 2021, where the apex medical regulator especially talks about dual MD-PHD programmes to promote medical research.

Around 5000 resident doctors and interns across Karnataka who went on strike, primarily demanding a restructuring of the academic fees and sanctioning of the Covid-19 allowance funds have called off their protest after Health Minister K Sudhakar's assurance.
The representatives of the Karnataka Association of Resident Doctors (KARD) had submitted a memorandum to the Karnataka Health and Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar at the Mysore Medical College and Research Institute.

The MBBS graduates in Jammu and Kashmir are having trouble getting registered with the State Medical Council as the term of the apex medical body in the State ended six months ago and it stands dissolved to date.
Consequently, even though hundreds of MBBS students have graduated several months ago, they are unable to get Jammu Kashmir Medical Council (JKMC) Registration certificate, which is a mandatory document for the doctors to start practising or appear in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Post Graduation (NEET-PG) counselling process.

In the process of designing new legislation for drugs, cosmetics, and medical devices to replace the present Drugs and Cosmetics Act, which was enacted in 1940, the high-level government committee is going to consider decriminalising offences and intending to exclude penal elements in the case of a quality-related failure from the proposed Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
This came in line with the meeting earlier this month between the expert panel and concerned stakeholders, at which industry experts urged that criminal measures be removed from the draft copy of drugs and cosmetics Act in the scenario of a quality-related failure, as they led to harassment.
