NMC grants FMGL 2021 exemption to online foreign BS students, mandates internship
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has recently clarified that medical aspirants who were admitted to the BS course in the medical institutes abroad before the publication of the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021 (FMGL 2021) dated 18.11.2021 through online mode will receive the NMC exemption.
In a recent notice, the Apex Medical Commission has clarified that such students shall be governed by the Screening Test Regulation, 2002. However, to ensure adequate clinical exposure and for maintaining uniform standards in medical education and practice, the Commission has made one additional year of internship mandatory for these students.

BRD Medical College Gorakhpur Faces Scrutiny Over MBBS Student Stuck in First Year for 11 Years
An unprecedented academic case has come to light at BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur, where an MBBS student has remained in the first year of his course for over eleven years now. Following this, the college has now come under scrutiny.
According to media reports, the student was admitted in 2014 under the Scheduled Caste (SC) quota. Even after 11 years, he has not been able to pass the first-year MBBS exams. However, according to college sources, the student only attempted the exams once. He failed all the papers and subsequently stopped appearing for the exams altogether.

NBEMS Launches Free Online AI Course for PG Doctors, Faculty and Trainees from January 2026
The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) recently launched an Online Programme on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Medical Education and invited applications from postgraduate doctors, faculty members, trainees, and alumni.
In this regard, the NBEMS President and NMC chairperson, Dr Abhijat Sheth, issued a statement.
In the statement, he mentioned that the course on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Medical doctors is being offered by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). Medical practice is evolving rapidly with the rising use of digital tools and advanced technologies. AI is increasingly being used to support doctors in diagnosis, treatment planning, basis predection and patient monitoring. When used correctly, AI can improve efficiency, reduce medical errors and enhance the quality of patient care.
