NBE Online course on AI in medical education to help doctors across specialities, adopt AI safely, ethically: Dr Abhijat Sheth

New Delhi: The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) recently launched an Online Programme on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Medical Education and invited applications from postgraduate doctors, faculty members, trainees, and alumni.
In this regard, the NBEMS President and NMC chairperson, Dr Abhijat Sheth, issued a statement.
In the statement, he mentioned that the course on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Medical doctors is being offered by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). Medical practice is evolving rapidly with the rising use of digital tools and advanced technologies. AI is increasingly being used to support doctors in diagnosis, treatment planning, basis predection and patient monitoring. When used correctly, AI can improve efficiency, reduce medical errors and enhance the quality of patient care.
"At the same time, it is important for the doctors to clearly understand what AI can and what AI can’t do. This course has been developed to help doctors to gain a basic and practical understanding of AI and its application in the Healthcare. It will explain AI concepts in simple terms and focus on real-life clinical examples. The course will also address important issues such as ethics, data privacy, patient safety and the need for human oversight in clinical decisions," Dr Sheth said.
The course has been developed in consultation with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Lucknow and other eminent faculty members who helped the pioneers of AI in the medical education. Senior National and International faculties have joined hands with NBEMS to impart the basics of AI to the doctors and will be taking the various lectures and Classes.
Dr Sheth further added that "reputed faculties from Oxford University, Harvard University and Mayo Clinic in the USA and UK and IIM have agreed to participate in this course. While our main focus is on NBEMS Trainees and faculties the other medical professionals can also attend the course. I’am pleased to inform you that the NBEMS will not charge any fees for this course from the participants”.
Through these initiatives, NBEMS aims to prepare doctors to use AI as a supportive tool while ensuring that medical judgement compassion and professional responsibilities remain at the core of healthcare delivery. The course reflects the commitments of NBEMS to continue learning and to prepare the medical professional for the future.
“I am confident that this course will be beneficial for doctors across specialities, and will help them to adopt AI in a safe, ethical and meaningful manner for the benefit of the patients”, Dr Sheth added.
