Considering a plea over the non-payment of emoluments to the resident doctors pursuing PG diploma courses across Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospitals and medical colleges, the Supreme Court has recently issued a notice in the matter.
Seeking their response to the plea, the apex court bench of Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Ahsanuddin Amanullah issued notice to the Centre and the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBE), the director general of ESIC and ESIC hospitals in Delhi, Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Gujarat.
In a horrific incident, a 25-year-old on-duty medical officer at Lokhandwala Hospital in Dariapur was brutally stabbed by a knife in the left side of his chest by a patient and his two attendants inside the hospital premises, after a dispute over filing a medico-legal case.
After sustaining severe injuries in his chest area, the doctor was rushed to the trauma ward of the Civil Hospital in Asarwa for emergency treatment. He is currently conscious and stable.

The Madhya Pradesh government has informed the High Court that the vacant NRI quota postgraduate medical seats would be filled from the General category based on merit in the last round of counselling process of the National Eligibility-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2024 examination.
The State gave this assurance during the proceedings of a plea seeking the inclusion of 48 vacant NRI seats of Private Medical Colleges and their conversion into General quota seats for meritorious candidates.

In a recent case of cyber fraud, a Hyderabad-based woman doctor was scammed out of Rs. 1.40 lakh by a fraudster posing as an army official. The scam unfolded when the scammer pretended to arrange for a group of women cadets to undergo medical examinations at her clinic.
According to the news reports, the amount was debited from the victim’s ICICI Bank account while she shared her GooglePay screen with the fraudster.
