From faculty shortage, and reforms in MBBS Curriculum to ways of improving doctor population ratio in India- several key aspects of medical education sector were discussed by a Health Ministry panel at the recently held Post Budget Webinar.
The webinar, which was held today from 9:00 AM to 6:30 PM included a session held by the Health Ministry on "Expansion of Medical Education".
The Supreme Court has directed all State Governments to examine and formulate policy decisions regarding private hospitals allegedly compelling patients to purchase medicines, implants, and medical devices from their own pharmacies or recommended outlets, often at higher-than-market rates.
The directive came in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) challenging this practice. The PIL sought a direction preventing private hospitals from mandating that patients purchase medicines, devices, and implants exclusively from hospital pharmacies, arguing that these facilities charge exorbitant rates compared to market prices. They also called for policy intervention from the Union and State Governments to regulate such practices.

The Director General of Medical Education and Training, Uttar Pradesh has asked the authorities of Krishna Mohan Medical College not to charge any additional fee from the medical students of the 2019-2020 academic batch.
Writing to the Principal of the medical college, the Director of UPDGME issued this direction while relying on the recent Allahabad High Court order setting aside the Appellate Authority's order to increase the MBBS Fee of the 2019 batch.

During a surprise visit to Gandhi Hospital on Tuesday, Health Minister C Damodar Raja Narasimha raised serious concerns over staff attendance and service inefficiencies. Several doctors, including professors and associate professors, were found absent during the visit.
The unapproved absenteeism prompted the minister to direct senior officials to investigate and hold those responsible accountable for neglecting their duties. Rajanarsimha ordered the hospital superintendent and the Director of Medical Education (DME) to issue show-cause notices to the absent medical professionals, demanding an explanation for their unauthorized absence.
