Don't charge additional fees from MBBS students: UP DGME directs Krishna Mohan Medical College

New Delhi: The Director General of Medical Education and Training, Uttar Pradesh has asked the authorities of Krishna Mohan Medical College not to charge any additional fee from the medical students of the 2019-2020 academic batch.

Writing to the Principal of the medical college, the Director of UPDGME issued this direction while relying on the recent Allahabad High Court order setting aside the Appellate Authority's order to increase the MBBS Fee of the 2019 batch.

Apart from ordering the institute not to charge any additional fee from the students, the DGME also specified that the biometric attendance and internship of the concerned students should also not be stopped.

"Strict compliance of the orders should be ensured," clarified the DGME.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that recently the Allahabad High Court set aside an order issued by the Appellate Authority, UP Professional Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Fixation of Fee), allowing Mathura-based Krishna Mohan Medical College to increase the MBBS fees by an exorbitant amount.

The Court had held that the order dated 24.10.2024 passed by the Appellate Authority was not sustainable. Setting it aside, the Court clarified that the College was restrained from raising any enhanced fee from the petitioners.

Further, the Court noted that the students were forced to pay significantly higher fees than what the college itself had prayed for in its appeal before the UP Private Professional Education Institutions Act. While the college had prayed for fixation of fee before the Appellate Authority at the rate of Rs.43,63,088/- per student for MBBS Course for the Session 2019-20, the students who opted for normal room had paid Rs.57,66,000/-, the students who opted air-cooled room had paid Rs.62,16,000/- and the students who opted air-conditioned room had paid Rs.66,66,000/-, noted the Court.

Referring to this, the Court clairifed that for this reason also, the concerned impugned order was unsustainable. The Court also slammed the college for filing multiple petitions before the Appellate authority seeking the same relief, however, without disclosing it.

Referring to the HC order in this case, the Director General of Medical Education and Timing, UP, wrote to the Principal of Krishna Mohan Medical College, Mathura and referring to the subject, the Director informed that some of the students admitted to the medical college through academic session 2019-2020 have informed through e-mail that their internship training had been stopped by the college administration, and the students were also not being allowed to mark biometric attendance.

In this context, the Director referred to the HC order and mentioned, "Therefore, in the matter in question, it is said that in compliance with the order passed by the Hon'ble High Court, Allahabad, no additional fee should be taken from the students of the academic session 2019-20 batch and biometric attendance and internship of the concerned students should also not be stopped. Strict compliance of the orders should be ensured."
