NMC guidelines to prevent ragging suggest mentor-mentee programs, institute-parent meetings
Amidst the concerns regarding the mental health of medical students and the reported instances of ragging and harassment of new students by their seniors, the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has specified certain efforts to create a healthy environment at the institutes. The measures recommended by the UG Board of NMC include arranging a meeting between the college and parents/wards of all students and carrying out mentor-mentee programmes at the medical colleges.
These recommendations have been added by the UGMEB of the Apex Medical Commission in the recently released Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) 2024 Curriculum.

Silchar medical college final-year MBBS student dies by suicide due to acute depression
After being unable to cope with depression, a final-year medical student of Silchar Medical College and Hospital reportedly took his life by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his house.
In two separate suicide notes recovered by the police, the student apologised to his mother saying "Mother, forgive me. I am leaving you today. I am unable to handle the depression and I feel a pain near my chest." On another note, he said, "I am willingly committing suicide, nobody is responsible for my suicide."

2 doctors suspended, BJP alleges evidence tampering in 'Ghosh Letter' case
On Thursday, the West Bengal Health Department suspended Dr. Birupakha Biswas and Dr. Avik Dey from Burdwan Medical College. They were reportedly close associates of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, who is in CBI custody over corruption allegations. The suspension follows the CBI's recent arrest of Ghosh and three others, part of an investigation mandated by the Calcutta High Court.
“De, an RMO in the Radiodiagnosis Department of Burdwan Medical College has been placed under suspension with immediate effect pending departmental proceeding until further order,” the Health Department notification stated.

2 nurses found guilty of negligence in Infant Death case

In a case of alleged medical negligence, a nurse and a trainee nurse have been booked for causing death due to negligence after a five-and-a-half-month-old infant tragically lost his life at the Janana Hospital for Children in Rajkot after receiving medication intended for a nebulizer.According to an investigation conducted by hospital authorities, the trainee nurse, Pintoo Fangaliya, under the guidance of nurse Ekta Rathod, mistakenly injected medication intended for nebulisation directly into the infant's leg.
