Bombay HC Slams State’s ‘Pick and Choose’ Approach, Orders Fee Reimbursement to 4 Students
Observing that merit cannot be compromised, the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court recently pulled up the State Government for its implementation of a medical fee reimbursement scheme in a 'pick and choose' manner.
"We are constrained to mark our serious displeasure against respondent State Authorities’ ‘pick and choose’ method while implementing a beneficial ‘one time scheme’. In fact, while examining the matters in hand, we are shocked to see serious incongruity in admitting students in Government and Aided medical colleges," the HC bench comprising Justices Kishore C Sant and Ajit B Kadethankar observed in its August 3, 2026 order while considering the petitions filed by four general category medical students who were denied the benefit of the said scheme.

AIIMS Probes 15-Year-Old Kota Girl’s Death With Congenital Heart Defect
AIIMS Delhi has constituted a committee to examine the death of a 15-year-old, who had been undergoing treatment for a congenital heart defect at the institute since childhood. She, originally from Kota, died at AIIMS on September 1 after more than a decade of hospital visits and cardiac evaluations. Her father alleged that corrective surgery had been discussed and scheduled several times but was repeatedly postponed. He questioned why the procedure was not performed if it could have treated his daughter earlier, according to The Print report.
AIIMS has disputed this account, stating that she underwent detailed cardiac investigations in 2013, including CT angiography, conventional angiography and cardiac catheterisation. According to the institute, the treating team concluded in 2017 that corrective surgery was not feasible because of the complexity of her cardiac anatomy and advised medical management. An earlier 2014 estimate had diagnosed VSD with pulmonary atresia and proposed unifocalisation and conduit surgery. The committee will review her records, investigations, treatment and expert opinions. AIIMS said an autopsy is also underway.
