UP doctor, Hospital to pay Rs 4.4 lakh compensation after Patient's death

The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) upheld the order of the Uttar Pradesh State Consumer Court directing a Kanpur-based hospital and its doctor to pay Rs 4.4 lakh compensation to a man, whose wife died of septicaemia and shock after undergoing gall bladder surgery at the hospital.

After taking note of the post-mortem report, the Apex Consumer Court noted that the patient had indeed died of septicaemia at the age of 26 years. Further, the Commission noted that both the District and State Commission had held that septicaemia had developed as the hospital and doctor did not take proper care after the first surgery.

No NEET SS exam centre in Srinagar, Over 1000 Aspirants Ask Govt, NBE

Doctors are upset with the matter that the National Board of Examinations (NBE) has not allotted any National Eligibility Entrance Test for Super Speciality Courses (NEET-SS) centre in Srinagar this year as well.

Due to this, more than thousand doctors, who are willing to pursue super-specialty courses, will have to travel to Jammu next month to appear in the examination.

Denying medical reimbursement for chronic disease treatment in OPD is unreasonable, says HC
Noting that the denial of the claim for medical reimbursement on the ground that it was taken in OPD, is not based on a reasonable classification, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has upheld the single judge's decision directing the Haryana government to reimburse the medical expenses incurred for the treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) of a state government employee's spouse in an OPD setting.
The Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sudhir Singh observed that the disease being chronic in nature, the treatment, even if taken in OPD, cannot be termed to be not falling in category of emergency treatment, particularly when the disease relating to renal requires a continuous treatment.

2 GSVM doctors terminated for being absent from duty

In a decisive move to uphold discipline and ensure high-quality care for patients, two faculty members of GSVM Medical College in Kanpur have been dismissed for repeatedly staying absent from their duties. The decision was made in accordance with the directive of Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak.
