Kanpur: In a decisive move to uphold discipline and ensure high-quality care for patients, two faculty members of GSVM Medical College in Kanpur have been dismissed for repeatedly staying absent from their duties. The decision was made in accordance with the directive of Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak.
This move is expected to send a strong message to other medical professionals in the state about the importance of adhering to professional conduct and the consequences of neglecting their duties.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Pathak said, “Disciplinary violations will not be tolerated. Providing high-quality treatment to patients is our top priority.”
The dismissed individuals include a lecturer who has been with the college since 2014 and an assistant professor in the neurosurgery department. Both were found to have violated the institution's attendance policies.
The lecturer came under scrutiny after being found guilty of taking unauthorized leave in 2017 to pursue further education without the necessary government clearance. An inquiry also revealed that he had been regularly absent from work.
The assistant professor in the neurosurgery department was dismissed for consistently being absent without leave since November 2023.
In addition to these dismissals, a co-assistant professor in the neurosurgery department has also been subject to disciplinary action. The doctor had been transferred from Kanpur to Jhansi after it was discovered that he was engaging in private medical practice in Kanpur and Fatehpur, violating the terms of his employment. Disciplinary procedures are currently underway against him as well.
