HC quashes SC, ST Act, Negligence charges against MBBS doctor in gallbladder surgery death case

The Jharkhand High Court has quashed the criminal proceedings against an MBBS doctor, who had been charged under Section 304A (causing death by negligence) and other IPC sections following the death of a patient after undergoing gallbladder surgery at his clinic. Additionally, the doctor faced charges under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, alleging that he had subjected the deceased's family to caste-based abuse.

The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, is a stringent law designed to prevent atrocities against members of Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) in India. Offenses under the Act are punishable with imprisonment ranging from six months to five years, along with fines.

Rajasthan doctors allege arbitrariness, lack of transparency in medical teachers recruitment

Alleging a lack of transparency and arbitrariness in the policies of the Rajasthan Medical Education Society (RajMES) and Rajasthan Medical Education Department, the doctors under the United Doctors Front (UDF) have expressed serious concerns in the recruitment exam held to fill up the posts of Assistant and Associate Professors in the medical colleges across State.

They alleged that while appointing doctors to Medical Teacher posts across the State, the Medical Education Department neither released a clear seat matrix nor provided details about the availability of seats in different districts. Further, they accused the department of implementing the transfer policy arbitrarily and making postings based on convenience rather than merit.

Family Blames Expired Saline for Pregnant Woman's Death at Midnapore Hospital

A 21-year-old woman passed away following childbirth at Midnapore Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal's Paschim Midnapore. Her family members have raised serious concerns about the saline administered to her during treatment.

The incident took place on Friday and has sparked outrage and protests from the families of patients, as four more patients have also fallen ill due to the administration of the expired saline.

HC dismisses plea against AIIMS Jodhpur’s ₹5 lakh deposit rule for leaving PG seat midway

Clarifying that the terms of the PG admission prospectus would apply in the case of spot counselling also, the Rajasthan High Court recently dismissed a plea against All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jodhpur challenging the demand of a Rs 5 lakh deposit from the petitioner.

The plea was filed by the petitioner, who had been admitted to the college under spot counselling. However, he vacated the seat in the middle of the semester.
