Rajasthan Doctors Raise Concerns over Medical Teachers Recruitment, Allege arbitrariness, lack of transparency
New Delhi: Alleging a lack of transparency and arbitrariness in the policies of the Rajasthan Medical Education Society (RajMES) and Rajasthan Medical Education Department, the doctors under the United Doctors Front (UDF) have expressed serious concerns in the recruitment exam held to fill up the posts of Assistant and Associate Professors in the medical colleges across State.
They alleged that while appointing doctors to Medical Teacher posts across the State, the Medical Education Department neither released a clear seat matrix nor provided details about the availability of seats in different districts. Further, they accused the department of implementing the transfer policy arbitrarily and making postings based on convenience rather than merit.
Speaking to Medical Dialogues, the President of UDF, Dr. Lakshya Mittal informed that even the top rankers did not get their desired postings after the counselling process.
Last month, the Rajasthan Government recruited doctors for around 1500 vacant Assistant and Associate Professors posts. However, allegedly, in the advertisement, the authorities just mentioned the total number of vacant posts for different specialities. Therefore, there was no clarity how many seats in which department, in which college, and in which district were lying vacant.
Allegedly, despite choosing the postings near their home locations, the doctors were given postings hundreds of miles away and when they sought to know the reason for the same, they were informed that there was no vacant seats in that specific speciality and in that specific institute/district. Referring to this, UDF has questioned if there were no vacancies, how come the options were available during the choice filling.
Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Medical Education Society (RajMES) released a notification on 06.01.2025 asking doctors willing to transfer to apply online from 06.01.2025 to 08.01.2025. While mentioning that efforts would be made to transfer the applicant as per the application made by him/her, the authorities had further specified that the right to transfer would not be conferred merely by applying.
Expressing concern regarding the recruitment process, UDF mentioned in a release, "Ground-level analysis reveals that over 50% of doctors have not yet joined their new positions. This delay is not due to salary issues but stems from a lack of transparency and the arbitrary approach of the department."
Referring to the doctors' transfer policy, the association added, "Doctors have labeled the department’s online transfer policy as mere eyewash, claiming it is being used only for publicity purposes. Additionally, doctors have accused the Secretary of Medical Education of adopting an arrogant attitude and refusing to address their concerns."
Therefore, the association has urged the State Government to:
1. Allow the candidates for re-allocation as per their preferences.
2. Ensure transparency in the appointment process with a complete seat matrix.
3. Review the policies of the Medical Education Department.
