NEET UG Counselling 2026: MCC Revises Round 1 Schedule, Registration Extended
In an important update for medical aspirants, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has revised the Round 1 schedule for the NEET UG Counselling for the academic year 2026 and also released the detailed seat matrix for MBBS, BDS and BSc Nursing admissions.
As per the revised schedule issued by MCC, candidates now have additional time to complete registration and choice filling, while the allotment result is scheduled to be announced on August 19, 2026.

NEET Scorecard Row: HC Seeks NTA Records After Score Allegedly Drops from 520 to 85
Hearing a plea filed by a 19-year-old NEET 2026 candidate who had allegedly received two different OMR sheets and claimed a discrepancy in her result after her score changed from 520 to 85, the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Union Government to produce her original OMR sheet and two scorecards of the examination.
In the plea, the petitioner sought a direction to consider her candidature based on the 520 marks that she received earlier and permit her to participate provisionally in the counselling process.

NEET UG 2026: MBBS Fees Surge at Deemed Universities, Cross ₹1 Crore at 46 Medical Colleges
The cost of pursuing MBBS through deemed universities has risen sharply for NEET UG 2026 aspirants, with two Tamil Nadu colleges seeing fee increases of up to 363% after recently receiving deemed-university status. Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Medical College, Perambalur, has raised its annual MBBS fee to ₹24 lakh from ₹5.4 lakh for state-quota seats, while Srinivasan Medical College, Tiruchirappalli, now charges ₹25 lakh, compared with ₹5.4 lakh earlier. An analysis of 62 deemed-university medical colleges found that 46 institutions now have total MBBS costs exceeding ₹1 crore, eight more than last year.
The overall cost includes tuition and other institutional charges but excludes hostel and mess fees. Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRIHER), Chennai, remains the country’s costliest, with the total MBBS programme cost reaching ₹1.58 crore after its annual fee rose to ₹35 lakh. Overall, 41 of 59 reviewed colleges increased their fees for 2026-27, with hikes ranging from below 1% to 29%. While deemed universities generally charge the same fees irrespective of category, the sharp rise has renewed concerns over the growing cost of medical education and the financial burden on NEET UG 2026 aspirants, according to a careers360 report.
SC Says Additional Seats Can be Created to Accommodate Candidate Wrongfully Denied MS Obstetrics Gynaecology admission
In a recent ruling, the Supreme Court reiterated that the top court can exercise its power under Article 142 of the Constitution of India to compensate a candidate who has been wrongfully denied admission by creating an additional seat or by accommodating the candidate in any other manner.
In this case, the bench invoked its powers under Article 142 of the Constitution to convert a vacant NRI seat in MD Community Medicine into a seat in MS Obstetrics-Gynecology, thereby accommodating two candidates in postgraduate medical admissions.
