Dr Vandana Das death aftermath: Kerala Govt finally announces panel, additional measures to ensure safety of doctors
Amidst the protest from doctors demanding new legislation to ensure safety of medical professionals at their workplace following the gruesome killing of Dr. Vandana Das, the State Government of Kerala has announced more measures to assuage their concerns, including setting up of a panel to address the fraternity’s long-pending demands.
The proposed committee, to be headed by the secretary of medical education, would study various issues raised by postgraduate students and house surgeons and submit a report within one month, Health Minister Veena George said.
A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) would be released soon for those who go to work in other hospitals as part of their medical residency programme.

Finally, NMC announces a common National Medical Register for all doctors
Four years after first hinting that there will be a common National Medical Register for all the registered medical practitioners of the country, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has finally announced the formation of the same.
The announcement comes in the form of a gazette notification recently released by the National Medical Commission titled "Registration of Medical Practitioners and Licence to Practice Medicine Regulations, 2023".

Largest tumor (6.5 cms) removed from food pipe by tunneling
Doctors at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi successfully performed endoscopy surgery to remove a tumour of the size of 6.5 cm from a food pipe of 30-year-old man.
This tumour was one of the largest tumours removed endoscopically in India, as per the doctors who conducted the surgery.

MBBS admission cancelled due to inconsistencies in caste certificate, student seeks urgent intervention from Gujarat HC
Facing an uncertain future, an MBBS student, whose admission was cancelled due to inconsistencies in caste certificate, has now approached Gujarat High Court praying for urgent intervention of the HC bench.
The student, who is currently undergoing her MBBS Internship, hails from the Bhil Community, a scheduled tribe. While he had been admitted to a government medical college under ST quota back in 2018, the scrutiny committee of the Commissioner of Tribal Development (CTD) has now cancelled his admission after finding inconsistencies in the caste certificate of his grand aunt.
