MBBS admission cancelled due to inconsistencies in caste certificate, student seeks urgent intervention from Gujarat HC

Ahmedabad: Facing an uncertain future, an MBBS student, whose admission was cancelled due to inconsistencies in caste certificate, has now approached Gujarat High Court praying for urgent intervention of the HC bench.
The student, who is currently undergoing her MBBS Internship, hails from the Bhil Community, a scheduled tribe. While he had been admitted to a government medical college under ST quota back in 2018, the scrutiny committee of the Commissioner of Tribal Development (CTD) has now cancelled his admission after finding inconsistencies in the caste certificate of his grand aunt.
Surprisingly, admission of the cousin sister of the petitioner student was approved, even though the admission was made on the basis of the same caste certificate.
The High Court bench has allowed the plea by the MBBS Intern and has listed the matter for hearing on May 16.

As per the latest media report by Ahmedabad Mirror, after being admitted to the MBBS course in 2018, the student is currently working as an intern at the medical college. However, he came under the radar of the scrutiny committee of CTD, which started probing the students admitted under the quota back in 2021.
The said committee allegedly discovered some discrepancies in the school records of the grand aunt of the petitioner student. On the basis of this, his admission was cancelled on April 1.
Following this, the student challenged the decision of the Committee and approached the Gujarat High Court bench seeking urgent intervention in this regard.
The counsel for the student, Bhavik Samani has contended that the matter requires urgent attention of the court as the student is currently undergoing his internship and wishes to appear in the NEET-PG examination next year after completing his MBBS degree.
Therefore, is the decision taken by CTD does not get stayed or quashed, the student will not be able to appear in NEET PG entrance examination for admission to Postgraduate medical courses, argued the counsel for the student.
Advocate Samani further referred to the fact that even though the admission of the student was cancelled, the certificate of his cousin was validated by CTD despite their shared family.
Referring to this, the counsel for the student argued that the admission of the petitioner student has been suspended in an unfair manner and it is ultimately jeopardizing his career. Only a few months left to complete his MBBS education, the student is now facing an uncertain future.
