The Madras High Court has dismissed a petition seeking a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ensure a fair, transparent and disruption-free environment for candidates appearing in the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination scheduled on June 21.

The petitioner had urged the court to direct authorities to frame uniform guidelines for all examination centres and, as an interim measure, asked the National Testing Agency (NTA) to issue ad hoc instructions to invigilators to ensure students receive the full allotted exam time without interruptions. The plea was filed in the backdrop of the cancellation of the May 3 NEET-UG examination following allegations of a question paper leak, according to the Live Law report.

A Division Bench of Chief Justice S.A. Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arul Murugan declined to entertain the petition, observing that similar issues concerning NEET-UG 2026 are already pending before the Supreme Court. The apex court is examining multiple petitions related to the cancelled examination, including the NTA's compliance with recommendations made by a high-powered expert committee formed in 2024 to strengthen the NEET system. In view of the pending proceedings before the Supreme Court, the High Court held that it would not be appropriate to intervene and dismissed the plea.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences and Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (ABVIMS and Dr RML Hospital), New Delhi, recently issued a public advisory warning MBBS aspirants against agents and touts falsely promising admission to the institute's MBBS programme for the 2026-27 session.

The institute urged candidates to rely only on official admission procedures and cautioned them against paying money or sharing personal information with unauthorized individuals claiming to facilitate admissions.

MBBS interns in central government medical colleges, including the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) institutes may likely get relief as the Government is considering revising their stipends after more than four years, Economic Times has reported.

Since the year 2018, the MBBS stipend has been revised every two years. However, the cycle broke when, since 2022, there has been no stipend hike to the MBBS interns belonging to central government institutes.

HC Quashes Case Against Gynaecologist, Finds No Medical Negligence in Newborn Injury Case

Granting relief to a Kolkata-based Gynaecologist, who was accused of medical negligence during a caesarean delivery resulting in the scalp injury of the newborn, the Calcutta High Court recently dropped the case against her.

Perusing the case records, proceedings before the West Bengal Medical Council, and the doctor's explanation, the HC bench observed that the minor suffered a scalp injury "which occurred at the time of scissor and delivery" and "it was properly managed".
