Telangana Imposes Rs 50 lakh penalty for leaving PG Medical Courses Midway
Candidates getting admitted to postgraduate medical degree and diploma courses at Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) will have to pay Rs 50 lakh as a penalty to the university if they fail to complete the course.
The details regarding the service bond and seat-leaving bond were published in the prospectus released by the KNRUHS for admission into PG medical degree and diploma courses under the competent authority quota for in-service and non-service candidates for the academic year 2025-2026.

Maharashtra forms panel to draft student mental health policy
To address mental health concerns, the Maharashtra government has recently formed an 11-member expert committee to develop a draft policy on student mental health protection and grievance redressal in educational institutions.
This policy will be applicable to public universities (non-agricultural), affiliated colleges, and private universities across Maharashtra.
An 11-member expert committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Dr Hemlata Bagla, Vice Chancellor of Mumbai-based HSNC University. She has directed the committee to submit a draft within two months. The formation of the committee was announced in a government resolution issued by the Department of Higher and Technical Education on October 10.

Maha constitutes panel to draft policy on mental health of students
NEET PG 2025 counselling begins; check top 15 NIRF-ranked medical colleges
After two months of delay, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) recently began the NEET PG counselling for the academic year 2025.
Registration process has begun for the first round of seat allotment for postgraduate medical programmes, including MD, MS and DNB courses.
Eligible and interested candidates who wish to participate in NEET PG 2025 counselling can apply on the official MCC website and participate in the first round of allotment.

Supreme Court issues notice to Fortis Hospital in brain injury compensation case
The Supreme Court has issued a notice to Fortis Hospital regarding a plea by eight-year-old Devarsh Jain, who suffers from severe brain damage sustained during birth at the hospital in 2017. The child’s mother claims the injury was concealed, leading to delayed treatment and permanent disabilities including cerebral palsy and epilepsy. The plea seeks Rs 1350 crore in class action compensation after the National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission dismissed their claim. The bench scheduled the next hearing for December 8, 2025.
The plea alleges medical negligence by two paediatricians at Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, Delhi, who were reportedly unqualified yet admitted and treated newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Devarsh’s injury led to cerebral palsy and epilepsy, rendering him mute and motionless. His mother claims the doctors mishandled care, resulting in irreversible brain damage. The NCDRC was criticized for misinterpreting the complaint as a public interest litigation rather than addressing specific misconduct. Fortis Hospital has stated it has not yet received formal notice and will respond.
