NEET PG 2025: NMC Issues Revised Counselling Schedule
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a revised counselling schedule for NEET PG 2025 admissions under the All India Quota (AIQ) and State Quota seats.
The revised schedule was notified through an official communication and has been circulated to all medical colleges and institutions across the country.
According to the public notice, the revised counselling schedule has been issued by the Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) of NMC vide its Public Notice dated December 19, 2025, after receiving the updated timeline from the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). The revised schedule aims to ensure better coordination between AIQ and State Quota counselling processes.

NMC Invites Applications for New Medical Colleges, UG Seat Expansion for 2026–27 Academic Year
In a recent notice, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has invited online applications for the establishment of new medical colleges intending to start MBBS courses and for an increase in the intake of UG seats in the existing Medical Colleges through the web portal for the Academic year 2026-27.
Writing to the Directors/Principals/Deans of all medical institutes under NMC, and the applicants willing to apply for setting up new medical colleges with the MBBS course, the NMC Secretary said, "Kind reference is invited to the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of National Medical Commission (NMC)’s Public Notice of even number dated 21-12-2025 w.r.t. Online applications for Establishment of New Medical Colleges intending to start Under Graduate (UG) course and for increase in the intake of UG seats in the established Medical Colleges for AY 2026-27. All the concerned Institutions are requested to take necessary action and adhere to the same."

SC Upholds Power to Award Compensation Separate from State Medical Council's Role in Medical Negligence
In a recent order, the Supreme Court clarified that the power of the Commission established by the West Bengal Clinical Establishments (Registration, Regulation and Transparency) Act, to grant compensation is separate and distinct from the power of the State Medical Council to examine the presence or absence of medical negligence on the part of a medical professional.
"The power to grant compensation as is given under this Act, is separate and distinct from the power of the State Medical Council to examine the presence or absence of medical negligence on the part of a professional, and it nowhere interferes with the power of the State Medical Council to adjudicate the complaints of medical negligence," the Apex Court two-Judge bench comprising Justices Sanjay Karol and Manoj Misra observed.

Karnataka doctor duped of Rs 22 lakh in cyber fraud case
In a shocking case, a Karnataka- based doctor reportedly lost Rs 22 lakh to a sophisticated cyber fraud that involved promises of a huge monetary reward. The fraud began when a person claiming to be from abroad contacted the doctor, offering 25 lakh US dollars as appreciation for his work.
According to the police, soon after, another individual, claiming to be a Customs Officer, called the doctor and said that a parcel addressed to him had arrived and that customs duty had to be paid to release it. Over the course of three days, the doctor visited a local Canara Bank branch to transfer amounts to different accounts as instructed by the fraudsters.
