NMC removes bank guarantee for 14 PG medical courses, rationalises fees for PG seats

In a major move to promote certain neglected PG Medical Specialisations across the country, the apex medical regulator has now done away with bank guarantees for medical colleges intending to start these courses. Besides this, through a recent notice, the National Medical Commission ( NMC) has also announced the rationalisation of the Bank Guarantee rates for medical colleges offering PG Medical courses in various specialisations.

The rates are revised for Bank Guarantees mandatorily to be furnished by the medical institutes from the next academic year.

Central Govt approves 60 new medical colleges across the country

Bringing good news to the medical aspirants in India, the Union Government has approved 60 new medical colleges across the country. With this permission from the Centre, the number of medical colleges in the country has increased from 706 medical colleges in 2023-2024 to 766 medical colleges in 2024-2025.

As per a PIB release, the Union Health Minister Shri J P Nadda recently informed that there is an increase of 8.07% in Medical Colleges from 706 in 2023-2024 to 766 in 2024-2025.

Medical students swept away at Jalatarangani Waterfalls, 2 dead, 1 missing

In a tragic incident, two female MBBS students of Eluru Asram Medical College have been found dead and another student is missing after they were swept away while taking a bath in the Jalatharanagini waterfall near the Maredumilli agency area in Alluri Sitarama Raju district.

According to the police, five medical students were swept away initially around 4 pm on Sunday at Jalatharangini waterfalls in Maredumilli, out of whom two were rescued immediately by the police and forest officials who were admitted to a local hospital, but three others could not be rescued.

Chhattisgarh: CIMS dean and medical superintendent suspended for financial irregularities

Chhattisgarh Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal announced the suspension of the dean KK Sahare and medical superintendent SK Nayak of Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) for alleged involvement in financial irregularities and dereliction of duty.

The Minister made the announcement after a meeting of the autonomous council of CIMS.
