Centre ropes in IIM to restructure NMC
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has enlisted the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) to restructure and reform the National Medical Commission (NMC), the Apex Medical Education Regulatory Body, three officials familiar with the matter informed Mint.
For this, a senior faculty member of IIM-A has spoken to all four autonomous boards of the Commission including the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB), Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB), Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB), and Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB).

West Bengal hikes Doctors' salaries, Senior Residents to now get Rs 15,000 MORE
Bringing good news to all govt doctors, the state government of West Bengal has announced a salary hike for the doctors of state-owned hospitals by Rs 15,000 for resident doctors. The government has further lifted the suspension of 12 junior doctors of Medinipur Medical College and Hospital.
The doctors have also been allowed to do private practice within 30 km radius after doing eight hours of duty in the government hospitals.

Supreme Court calls for mechanism to report Misleading medical Ads
While considering the Indian Medical Association's plea regarding misleading medical ads, the Supreme Court today emphasized the necessity of the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act and highlighted the requirement for a mechanism under the Act to enable citizens to file complaints against such instances.
During the hearing of the case, the top court bench comprising Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan asked the Senior Advocate Shadan Farasat (Amicus Curiae) to place before the bench a note on the implementation of the Act by the next date of hearing, Live Law has reported.

Supreme Court calls for mechanism for complaints Against Misleading medical Ads
60 Medical Colleges Not Paying Stipend to Medicos: RTI
Altogether 33 Government and 27 private medical colleges are not paying any stipends to their MBBS interns, postgraduate resident doctors, and senior doctors, revealed the file notings of the National Medical Commission (NMC), obtained through a Right to Information (RTI) application.
The RTI application was filed by Kerala-based Health Activist Dr. KV Babu, who had sought copies of the legal opinion availed by NMC regarding action against Medical Colleges based on the show cause notice dated 28.11.2024 issued to 198 medical colleges. He had also sought the file noting along with the copies of affidavits filed in the Supreme Court this year.
