NMC Tells Medical Colleges Not to Allow Leave Before NEET 2026
As the NEET UG 2026 examination approaches, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has advised all medical colleges not to grant leave to students on May 2nd, 2026 and May 3rd, 2026, except in exceptional circumstances with proper justification.
Issuing a public notice on April 23, 2026, the Commission said the direction has been taken as a preventive step to discourage any possible misuse and to support the fair conduct of the NEET UG 2026, which is scheduled to be held on May 3, 2026.

NHRC Flags Inhumane Duty Hours for PwD PG Medicos; Seeks Response from NMC, Health Ministry
Taking cognisance of a complaint alleging inhumane duty hours for PwD medical students, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The complaint before NHRC has been filed by Dr. Lakshya Mittal, the Chairperson of the United Doctors Front, who highlighted 24-72 hour shifts, violation of the Uniform Central Residency Scheme, 1992, and lack of reasonable accommodation. Filing the complaint, Dr. Mittal has sought strict implementation of the norms with mandatory weekly offs.

Bihar Nursing College Withdraws Order Restricting Marriage of Female Students After Row
A notice issued by the General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) School, Hathua, in Bihar's Gopalganj district has sparked controversy after it barred female students from getting married during the academic session.
According to the notice dated April 16, 2026, the institution informed students that marriage during the academic session is "prohibited." It further stated that if any student gets married during this period, the matter would be reported to the department and her enrolment would be cancelled with immediate effect.

Retired Doctor Falls Victim to Rs 1.55 Crore Cyber Fraud in Lucknow
In a case of cyber fraud, a 75-year-old retired government doctor in Lucknow was allegedly digitally arrested and duped of Rs 1.55 crore after scammers posed as law enforcement officials.
According to a UNI report, the victim, a retired officer from the state health services, received a call on April 11 from a person claiming to be an inspector from the police headquarters. The caller alleged that her Aadhaar number had been used in illegal and terrorist activities.
