NMC Proposes MBBS Seat Hike, NEET Round 2 Counselling begins Aug 29: MCC
Through a notice, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has informed that, as per the information received from the National Medical Commission (NMC), the process of increasing MBBS seats for the academic session 2025 is in progress. Therefore, on this, MCC has extended the National Eligibility and Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET UG) Round 2 Counselling dates for the academic year 2025.
According to the notice, to include newly authorised MBBS seats in the NEET UG Round 2 Counselling for the academic year 2025, the competent authority has decided to start Round 2 of UG Counselling 2025 from 29th August 2025, tentatively. However, the revised schedule for Round 2 will be published shortly.

Consumer Court Clears Nursing Home of Negligence in Alleged Expired Glucose Injection Death
The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) recently exonerated a nursing home from charges of medical negligence in the treatment of a patient suffering from an intestinal ulcer.
Even though the complainant alleged that her daughter died after being administered an expired glucose injection, the Apex Consumer Court noted, "in the complete absence of expert opinion, clinical documentation or independent evidence and a specific denial supported by discharge notes and medical records, no case of deficiency in service or negligence is made out against the OPs."

NEET PG 2025: Doctors Move NMC, Health Ministry Over Absence of SOP for Disabled Candidates
With the counselling for the National Eligibility-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) exam scheduled to commence in September, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has not yet released the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for postgraduate admission guidelines for doctors having disabilities.
Highlighting the issue, Doctors with Disabilities: Agents of Change, an association representing health professionals with disabilities in India, has written to the Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) of the Apex Medical Commission and the Directorate of Health Services (DGHS), under the Union Health Ministry.
Apart from the demand for publishing the SOP, the association has also demanded an increase in the number of NMC-designated assessment centres, release of the training schedule for all 16 medical boards, publishing of the names of doctors with disabilities appointed in those boards, issue of comprehensive guidelines on clinical accommodations etc.

7.95 Lakh Cancer Cases reported in 5 Years, reveals ICMR Report: Health Minister
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has reported a total of 7,95,331 cancer cases between 2015 and 2020 across 43 Population-Based Cancer Registries (PBCRs) under the National Cancer Registry Programme (NCRP). Out of these, 4,04,068 cases were reported in females and 3,91,263 in males, according to information shared by Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in a recent Rajya Sabha session.
Recognizing the growing burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), including cancer, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has taken several proactive steps under the National Health Mission (NHM). A population-based screening programme targeting individuals aged 30 years and above has been rolled out across the country as part of Comprehensive Primary Health Care. This includes regular screening for common NCDs, including oral, breast, and cervical cancers.
