NMC Extends Application Deadline for New Medical Colleges, MBBS Seat Expansion
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has extended the deadline for submitting online applications for the establishment of new medical colleges offering MBBS courses and for increasing undergraduate seat intake in existing medical colleges for the academic year 2026-27.
The extension has been announced through a public notice issued by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) on January 29, 2026.

NEET PG Counselling: MCC Halts Choice Locking Temporarily for Round 3
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), has announced that the choice locking process for Round 3 of the NEET PG Counselling for the academic year 2025 has been put on hold until further notice.
According to an official notice dated issued by the MCC in this regard, the decision has been taken in supersession of an earlier notice issued on the same day regarding the completion of choice filling for Round 3. MCC stated that the move follows information received from the National Medical Commission (NMC) about a pending matter before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.

PG Medical Admissions Don’t Grant Vested Rights, State Can Cancel Seats: HC
In a recent ruling, the Chhattisgarh High Court observed that candidates do not possess a "vested or indefeasible right" to a seat merely because they have completed the admission formalities, especially when such admission process is subject to judicial scrutiny and statutory corrections.
The HC bench comprising Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal made this observation while dismissing a plea that challenged the cancellation of the first and second rounds of counselling for Postgraduate medical courses for the academic year 2025.

Delhi Records 65,985 TB Deaths in Two Decades, Young Adults Most Affected
The national capital recorded 65,985 deaths due to Tuberculosis in the past two decades, with people aged 25-44 being the most affected, according to a report from the Delhi government.
The data analysed from 2005 to 2024 showed that a total of 65,985 people died due to tuberculosis, which peaked in 2024 with 5,093 fatalities. The lowest number of deaths in the last 20 years was recorded in 2007 at 2,516.
