Delhi HC upholds Rs 23 lakh compensation to patient who lost arm due to medical negligence
Dismissing the plea by the city government, the Delhi High Court recently upheld the order of the single judge bench directing the government to pay Rs 23 lakh compensation to a patient, who is a vegetable vendor by profession, for loss of arm due to medical negligence.
The man had lost his arm because of the medical negligence by the staff at the State-run Jagjivan Ram Hospital. While the State challenged the previous order, the division bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad opined that "the computation of compensation cannot be found fault with."

NMC nod to new MD courses at Goa Medical College
Bringing good news to the postgraduate medical aspirants in Goa, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has given its permission for new MD courses at Goa Medical College.
Doctors of Medicine (MD) courses in Geriatric medicine & immunology, haematology, and blood transfusion will be available at GMC from the academic year 2023-2024.
This information was shared by the Health Minister of the State Vishwajit Rane who announced on Thursday about the NMC nod for these new teaching courses.

Private medical college MBBS students to be migrated to other private medical colleges only
Issuing the recent draft of Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has specified that migration shall be granted only from a government medical college to a government institute and from a non-government (private) medical college to a non-government institute.
"No mutual exchange shall be permitted," the apex medical education regulatory body NMC has clarified in the recently published draft regulations.

AIIMS to collaborate with Delhi Govt hospitals for referral of patients
In response to the increasing patient load at the Centre-run premier health facility, the All India Institute of Medical Services (AIIMS) Delhi has decided to pair up with other city government hospitals to ensure cross-referral of patients. The move is reported to be functional soon.
As a pilot, the Indira Gandhi Hospital in Dwarka and NDMC’s Charak Palika Hospital will be taken on board and paired with AIIMS starting next month, they added.

Another 1010 MBBS seats to be added in Madhya Pradesh, confirms State Finance Minister
Bringing good news to the medical aspirants in the State, another 1010 MBBS Seats are going to be added to the seat matrix of Madhya Pradesh, finance minister Jagdish Devda has recently announced.
While presently, the state has 3.4% of all MBBS seats in the country, with the addition of another 1010 seats, the share will increase by 0.07%. Apart from this, MP's share of all the registered doctors in India, which is currently 3.2%, is also going to increase to 3.3% if the increasing number of graduating doctors is taken into account.
