Another 1010 MBBS Seats to be added in Madhya Pradesh, confirms State Finance Minister
Bhopal: Bringing good news to the medical aspirants in the State, another 1010 MBBS Seats are going to be added to the seat matrix of Madhya Pradesh, finance minister Jagdish Devda has recently announced.
While presently, the state has 3.4% of all MBBS seats in the country, with the addition of another 1010 seats, the share will increase by 0.07%. Apart from this, MP's share of all the registered doctors in India, which is currently 3.2%, is also going to increase to 3.3% if the increasing number of graduating doctors is taken into account.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that sharing the data regarding the state-wise break up of MBBS seats in India, the National Medical Commission (NMC) had informed that there are altogether 96,977 MBBS Seats are available in India in 653 medical colleges including 414 recognised and 239 approved institutes. Among these, Madhya Pradesh has a total number of 25 medical colleges with an intake capacity of 4080 MBBS Seats.
Now, the finance minister of Madhya Pradesh Jagdish Devda has recently announced that another 1010 MBBS seats will be added to the seat matrix of the State, adds the Times of India.
The focus for increasing the MBBS seats will be beneficial for the tribal areas of the State. While in the Phase I of expansion 58 new medical colleges were added to the State, in the Phase II of the expansion 24 locations had been shortlisted including at Sagar.
In the recent Phase III expansion, Rajgarh, Mandla, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Sheopur and Singrauli got selected for setting up a new medical college. The daily adds that as of December 2022, in the last five years, six medical colleges had been added to the seat matrix of the State. During the budget of the previous year, it had been mentioned that the target was to increase the MBBS seats in the State from 2,350 to 3,250 MBBS seats.
Last year, around 76,000 candidates belonging to MP had appeared for the NEET UG examination. The number of aspirants was only 58059 back in the year 2019.
